Garter Belt Advice/Suggestions Please!

Contributor: Breas Breas
I've never owned a garter belt but I feel like I need to invest in one. I have too many pairs of stockings that do not stay up on their own.

I'm looking for a garter belt I can wear beneath a dress/skirt in public. I am not looking for a garter belt to wear in the bedroom. This being said, I need something that isn't bulky and won't look odd beneath a tight-ish skirt.

I've never worn a garter belt before though so I'm wondering, what am I looking for? Is there certain qualities I should be looking for? Others I should be avoiding? Are there any garter belts here at EF that you'd suggest for me?

Should I order a size below my regular size that way it doesn't sag? Honestly, I'm a garter belt newbie. Please help!

My wife just got the High Waist Garter Belt (see review), and finds it extremly comfortable. While she has not to date worn it for over a couple of hours, she thinks that she could easily wear it for 6 to 8 hours.

One of the most important features for her is that the garter tabs are made of metal rather than plastic. For some reason the plastic ones always come unfastened allowing the stockings to fall down. She also think that for extended wear, the wider the belt, the more comfortabole it is.

Good luck in your search.

Checkmate is correct - the most comfortable "everyday wear" belt will have a wide band, and the metal clips are best at keeping the stockings on (bonus if it has a silicone grip on it, too). If you're able to find one with six garters, that's all the better.

Secrets in Lace link has - what I believe - the best everyday wear garter belts. They're retro and pricey, but they completely do their job and they last forever (look under the Shape Salon tab for their belts). Having just one (maybe two) will be a worthy investment, just like a great bra.

I just looked at your review and while it sounds like a nice garter belt, the bows and ruffle at the bottom seem as though they'd add a bulky look beneath a skirt/dress. I need a belt to wear underneath clothing out in public so I don't think this would work very well for me. I appreciate the suggestion though! Has your wife tried any other garter belts you might suggest?

The bows were not our cup of tea, but as they are held on with a safety pin, they can be easily removed. The ruffle is only a single layer of material, and when my wife has worn this garter belt under clothing I could not detect it.

She has found several other garter belts that she likes online, but I hesitate to put links here as EF has a nice thing going for us and I do not want to direct shoppers to other sites--sorry
