Who dresses up the manicans?

Contributor: sry sry
I just looked in the costume section of this site and thought...

Sounds like a fun job to position the fake people (sorry I don't know how to spell the thing you call them, manicans or whatever but firefox says its wrong) and put their clothes on.

I would totally work in a department store and dress up the people and put on some hair and move them into a pose. OMG. I went to the mall with my mom they had some awesome ones they had like big anime heads with facial expressions. OH IT WAS SOOOO COOL!! Big eyes too was so much fun to just look at all of them hehe. Though one had huge nipples it was funny I guess they forgot the bra or something.

Can you tell me what else he or she does for the site or are the pictures from the manufacturers.

Fun stuff ..I would totally go to school and be a photographer if that is who gets to dress them up!! Still haven't decided 100% what kind of job I want but this would give photography bonus points!

Mannequins* Heh

Actually, I think the ones on here are especially weird looking but it would be a silly job.

I think some look weird but these look pretty good...

I like how they have no seams, I'm wondering if they can be moved or they have multiple mannequins that do different poses. I'm thinking to my self how do you put on some of the stuff that's really delicate with out it ripping if they don't move very much..

I doubt you'd find a very realistic mannequin (because of price), though the ones on EF have really huge eyes but other than that they look fine. The facial expression is a bit weak though might be interesting to get one with a smile or some kind of expression... not "hmm I don't enjoy wearing this". If you catch what I'm trying to say.

Whats weird about these mannequins? These are miles ahead of what I see in the mall like in the clothing stores that I go to with my mom. I've never been inside a store that is geared towards women I usually just go to Dillards or JC Penny and their mannequins don't even have color and they have a pole like thing holding them up. The ones EF uses look like they stand on their own which is kinda cool.

Maybe its my weird thing that I have that's why I think dressing up a mannequin would be cool. Always wanted to take a girl to a clothing store and pick stuff for her to try on and just see what she looks like I have fun making female characters in my video games BC they always have more clothing options and they look better... I spent like 6 hours making one of my City of Heroes characters in the character creator she was epic! One of them used Ice as her powers and I made her look kinda frozen and pale blue icyish.

Maybe I am weird but if my gf/wife was going shopping for clothes I would want to go too, as long as she would try some stuff on that I picked out we don't have to buy it! She could try it on for 1 min and then go back and change to her picks and get back in her own clothes and then we buy her stuff then leave.

I know most guys hate to go shopping.. but for me its like a turn on if they try something I picked out, or if she wore my awesome pac-man shirt for a little bit. hehe.

I think it's mostly the faces - I've seen A LOT better in your everyday mall. Some of the wigs are also kind of crazy.

If I had to guess you probably live in a more populated area than I do.

BC of this they probably sell more items and make more money and thus have better mannequins. Or they know how to buy decent looking ones for a good price.

My mall has had the same ones since I can remember, like 10 years.

One of the stores though did have better ones but it was a brand new store that just moved in so I'm sure they had better ones BC it was newer but the old stores still had the same old crappy ones. This was the store with the Anime heads they had facial expressions too but had carved hair in the same material as the head, which is how all the mannequins are in the malls down here.

I'm actually going to google and see what type of cool mannequins there are for sale and how much each one goes for bc now i'm just curious about how cheap my mall is. LOL

Wow its like 100-300 bucks for a full mannequin that's a lot of money if you were to have like 3+ in your store. I can see why they would skimp on crappy mannequins... Especially a mall store with like 20 of them 4000 bucks for the 200 dollar ones. That is without the wigs....

100 for a 1 color mannequin (no make up)
200-250 for a multi-colored one
300 for a multi-colored pregnant one

Some had hair in the design of the face others were bald so you add your own wig some I saw were like 30-40 bucks for a single wig.

It could be very costly for a store to have more than a few mannequins. The 200-250 dollar ones looked nice though! Though I could see a business doing well if they sold a body and then sold different facial expression heads to go with it that would just sit on top or twist on.

I never expected this but some of the colored ones had colored nipples too! Weird, now whenever I go to the store I'm going to wonder if the nipples are colored. haha

Hey That Weird Guy, I'm the one dressing up the mannequins (thanks google). I wouldn't say it's SO much fun, but you definitely acquire some very cool undressing skills! I also take pictures of all the toys (now that's a lot more fun in my opinion) and pretty much everything that needs to be photographed for EdenFantasys.

>>"The ones EF uses look like they stand on their own which is kinda cool."

Thanks for noticing, I have to go an extra mile to make them look that way.

AWESOME! thanks for posting

Sounds like a fun job, I to now want to be a photographer. When I was in Alaska I took a few pictures waited a about 30 mins almost standing in an ant hill waiting for the perfect picture of some blue/black dragon flies. Then it started to rain a little bit. To my surprise the shot I did get were 2 of them mating. But the quality of the picture is not so great BC my camera was a cheap one and I had it on low res, boo..

Was cool though bc I was completely still for 30 mins they got up and landed on a long blade of grass about 10 inches from me!!

Anyway sounds like a cool job to take pics of toys..

Do you know how to use photoshop/editing program too? Do you ever use it for your job? Do they teach you how to use it when you go to photography classes?

Just out of curiosity what do you guys do with the toys that you photograph do you keep them for the employees? Surely you can't sell them to us BC it would be hard to seal it back in the packaging..

Keep up the good work!!

Mannequins are really hot in that dead body in the morgue kind of way, you know when there is no one else around! When I was younger, I used to think that pulling mannequins pants down was one of the funniest things of all time. I would pull the pants down around its ankles and then stand about 10 feet away in the department store practically pissing myself with laughter. Sadly enough I am fairly certain this would be just as funny to me if I did it again today… some 20 years later.

Lemme guess... you had a thing for Kim Cattrall when Mannequin came out?

or that one episode of Seinfeld... "the Elaine" ... lol.

I can't reply for the professional photographers, but I did take some graphic arts/photography classes in college and yes, you do learn postprocessing/darkroo m skills, whether they're digital or chemical/optical. You want to minimize their use, though - it's always better to have the shot the way you want it when the shutter goes than to try and clean it up later.

The other concern is ethics. This is more important in some areas than others (my prof was in the documentary/journalist side, so this was a big deal to mess with content, and I had to write a paper justifying my removal of a shadow). If your viewers think that this is a picture of something that really happened and in reality you composited it it's a bit of a gray area

I have never seen the movie Mannequin, but last night I watched Big Trouble in Little China for the first time since I was a kid, and now I know who Kim Cattrall is.

I worked at John Wanamaker's Dept Store in Philly while they were filming mannequin. They always had the best mannequins in their windows, down to great wigs and jewelry and shoes. The store had the largest organ in the world that played sveral times a day, marble floors and a Christmas light show that was incredible!
