Do you have a reaction to glycerin?

Contributor: Kkay Kkay
I'm allergic to glycerin, and I'm noticing more and more lubricants on the market being labeled specifically as glycerin free. It's great for me as I have to label-hunt less, but it makes me wonder- how many people out there have this problem?

I don't have a reaction to glycerin, but I do have a reaction to another common ingredient in lubricant.

I have never tried something with glycerin, but I look for lubes that are glycerin-free just to be safe.

No, I don't think I'm allergic to glycerin. I use Aquaphor Healing Ointment which contains lanolin and glycerin, I don't have any bad reaction to it. In fact, Aquaphor is the only thing that keeps my hands from cracking all winter long. When it comes to "lubes" with glycerin, then I have no experience in the department.

It burns for days!! No matter how well I remove the product, it leaves a chemical burn that is very painful.

I have no idea, I am scared to find out. I already have sensitive skin as is, I have eczema. I think my lady parts would not like things on it, only one I have used is KY since this is the lube at the gyno office.

I have a reaction to intimate lubes that contain glycerin. I am not "allergic" to it. Allergy implies that a histamine reaction is going on and that isn't the problem with me. I can use other products on other parts of my body containing glycerin and NOT get a reaction, but if I use it on my genitals I get vaginal infections and UTIs.

So, it's a reaction, but not a true allergy. Believe me I have plenty of true allergies, and they are not the same as simply being sensitive to an ingredient.

I avoid glycerin in lubes completely. But, I have plenty of hand creams, shampoos and conditioners, hair stuff, etc that contains glycerin and it works well and doesn't cause a problem with me in any other part of my body other than my genitalia.

I don't think I've ever had a reaction to glycerin. However, I am thinking of phasing out all my lube that contain the ingredients, because it seems to have the potential to cause yeast infections.

No, but I don't like it due to the risk of infections!

I don't have any reaction to glycerin, in lubes or in other products. Actually, I have a bottle of pure vegetable glycerin that I use for my skin and to smooth icings and candies.

I don't have a reaction to glycerin, or really anything else for that matter, as far as sensitivity and infections are concerned. I'm sensitive to a lot of things that are supposed to be "warming", though, and it burns!

One of the few girls who could probably coat her lady bits in food and not get an infection! (I only know this, due to prior teenage stupidity!) usually the way to know is if you can take a bath in a bubble bath with glycerin, chances are you aren't sensitive to glycerin-induced yeast infections.

I'm not entirely sure if it's the glycerin, but most lubes have caused me irritation at the least, and occasionally I've gotten a UTI or yeast infection. This doesn't happen when I use lubes that don't have glycerin/parabens- I started avoiding all potential irritants at the same time so I can't be sure what is the culprit. I'm also not really testing them to find out either.

Glycerine, and it's similar components cause me awful urinary infections and even yeast infections. I avoid using anything with Glycerine, and if I do use it, I wash it off immediately after use. This is one reason I prefer Sliquid lubricants and feminine wash.

I put yes but it's more like sometimes. I can handle it in small amounts for short periods of time if I clean up afterwards. So if I use a glycerin lube for a quick session and wash off I'll be fine but if it's a marathon even if I wash up - guaranteed yeast infection. I also once used a glycerin lube with my vaginal excecise balls all day (stupid me) and had the worst ever yeast infection. I try to avoid it if possible just to be on the safe side.

Actually I don't know if I can pin my UTI's on glycerin. I guess I would rather not use it but damn, it is so effective.

Glycerin doesn't bother me at all.
I don't have reactions to anything like that, but I do refuse to pump my body full of certain chemicals like parabens and petro!

I don't tend to have an issue with vegetable glycerin. I am a vegetarian, so I don't do animal glycerin, but my understanding is that this is the one people generally have a reaction to.
