i've never had to worry about lube, so i'm a novice with all of this. i'm beginning to explore anal play and i'm discovering there's much more to lube than i thought. different types of lubes for different types of toys, etc. but, i know i'll never remember all that so i was wondering if there's one good lube that's safe with all types of toy materials. looking forward to your replies

Yes - water based is safe with anything. And generally speaking as long as it doesn't contain glycerin or parabens (two additives some people have reactions to), it's also safe with all bodies.

Water based is safe for use with any toy material. My personal favorite is the glycerin and paraben free Astroglide.

Sliquid Sassy is my absolute favorite and most versatile lube. If you are willing to sacrifice all natural ingredients for a serious price cut, try Babelube. Purchasing the 16 oz. pump bottle is an excellent investment. Both of these lubes are thick enough for anal but also safe enough for vaginal use. As a side note, the Sliquid Sassy does not last as long as the Babelube.
