I know that this community is overflowing with maximus lovers, and the product page has dozens of glowing reviews. So I finally got around to buying a bottle, and found myself underwhelmed. I use the Silk Small, which is only 3/4" in diameter, I applied plenty of lube to both the dildo, and my anus. But when I tried to put it in it "stuck" a couple times, so the insertion was jerky and uncomfortable. My session pretty much ended there. I have been using astroglide gel for awhile, and it works pretty well for me. I think the difference might be the thickness. Maximus is not as thick as the astroglide gel, so it didn't provide as much cushioning. Did I do something wrong, or is this lube just not for me? It seems unlikely that all those reviews could be wrong, especially since so many use it for anal play.

I have had some experiences like you when first starting with a toy but it does not last longer than a stroke or two. I find that this only happens with silicone toys that have a glossy finish. Glass and stainless do not have this problem.
Try working more lube into the anus before hand and leave a dollop on the tip of the toy. The anus acts like a squeegee so this may help.

It could be that you just prefer, and are used to, a specific type of lubricant.
Sometimes, when you have something you really like already, trying something new just won't be a fun/fulfilling experience. If you like your other lubes so much, then maybe you should stick with them?? Not to sound snooty or anything
I find that I like anal with a thinner, silicone lubricant (when I am not using silicone toys)... but a lot of people definitely wouldn't describe perfect anal lube as thin.
But Dwtim's observations are also worth looking into. Play around with it a bit before abandoning hope and deciding Maximus is overrated. I still love my Maximus

I wasn't too thrilled with the liquid silk, figured it was best used with natural feminine lube.
The straight up clear Maximus with the pump handle is the best though!
