Do you flame test silicone toys?

You can have things deposited from the smoke (think about the residue on barbecues, chimneys and things around heavy smokers). Probably this is what you're seeing.

Note that you need to be very careful to not have the toy catch fire if it isn't silicone. I tested one TPR piece just to see what happened and they are quite flammable and difficult to put out.

I have wanted to know about the purity, but not badly enough to wreck a toy for the answer. The thought of melting a toy makes me sad.

The "flame test" should be done ONLY with a match.

A butane lighter, grill lighter, etc, can and will get hotter than the 600 degrees silicone can stand up to.

Matches, people.

NOT lighters. NOT propane ... more
Thank you.

Be VERY careful when you do this. Just for kicks I flame tested a TPR toy, and it caught fire and was almost impossible to put out. Do this in a safe place and have a pail of water ready just in case! (drop the toy in the water, don't throw the water at the toy.

No, I don't. I had never even thought of it before, actually.

I can honestly say I have never even thought to flame-test silicone toys, but major respect to those who have!

Never thought of doing it plus I'm afraid I'll somehow ruin anything I currently have or anything new that I get and that would be really really bad...

Ditto. There are a few manufacturers that I just don't trust to be what they say they are and so I flame test those as well as the toys that just seem... off in some way.

The usual quality silicone manufacturers I don't bother with.

There definitely are a few who seem to be a bit cagey, aren't there?

On the plus side more really, truly silicone toys are coming out from manufacturers who used to not make them, and a number of the inexpensive toys are moving from jelly to TPR.

Absolutely! I'd like to think it's because they are choosing to voluntarily but unfortunately for some of them I think it's purely because the consumer is getting wise to their lies and doing things like flame testing and calling bullshit.

When it is a quality brand (like Vixen Creations, or Tantus) then there is no reason for doing that. I am not a pyroman anyway )

Add me to the growing list of those that hadn't heard of this before. I might have to try it though... But only on the back of the base or some other inconspicuous spot.

I also want to do this. I have a silicone toy that I suspect is actually silicone, but it doesn't do much for me. So if it isn't...problem solved? I guess so long as I don't catch the house on fire...
