I've honestly never even heard of flame testing... And I wouldn't dare try it, I'm pretty clumsy and might accidentally set fire to my house.

For those that don't know that flame test is when you put a match or some other flame under the toy. Pure silicone shouldn't melt ... more

I've flame-tested Tantus dildos and all passed with (as suspected) flying colors.

I just flame tested the holder for the Bedroom Kandi "Hold on to me" vag balls. It caught fire, and when I wiped away the soot I also wiped away material. It flaked off AND was sticky / soft.

The founder of OhMiBod is telling me, however, that the flame test is too hot and isn't valid and that he's being told this by testers and manufacturers.

FYI

The "flame test" should be done ONLY with a match.

A butane lighter, grill lighter, etc, can and will get hotter than the 600 degrees silicone can stand up to.

Matches, people.

NOT lighters. NOT propane ... more
Good to know! thanks

I've never flame tested any silicone toys. I should though.

Matches and Bic lighters produce the same degree of heat. Both are a diffuse flame. I have just finished up an extensive test on items that are both silicone and silicone *blend* and the results every time were exactly the same whether I used matches or lighters. Hint: Tantus was my "control group" and their stuff didn't even bat an eye at any flame, be it lighter or match.

The flame is the same, it doesn't matter the fuel behind it.

I've seen it mentioned, but it never occurred to me to do it to my own toys. Like, in a testing situation I could see doing it. If I had a reaction to the toy, I totally would. But I don't want to take a flame to my toys.. I want to play with them.

I fire-test any toy I suspect is not 100% silicone. This happens especially often with low-priced brand that also carry a lot of jelly toys.

Of course, I also do other things to check before randomly using fire. For example, opacity, smell, and texture when squeezed can all be hints if something is silicone or not.

I've never done a flame test, and I doubt I ever will... Not because I don't want to know, but because I'm too darn scared of melting my toys! Besides, after having a housefire, I'm not too keen on fire or the potential burnt smell that could result from a silicone blend.

I've never flame tested a toy, but I have been tempted to (it was an anal plug). In the end, I didn't care much for the toy and tossed it.
