Would You Buy An AC Unit For Your Toy Storage?

Contributor: darthkitt3n darthkitt3n
I'm getting an apartment some time soon, so I'd just get either an A/C unit for the window or get an apartment with central air. I don't think I'd need a toy box with a built in A/C unit, then.

No, that would be silly.

I wouldn't go for this, since I wouldn't be buying anything that'd melt at reasonably temps anyway.

Maybe, but probably not. I live in FL, so it does get really hot, but I have cats so my house stays fairly cool whether I'm home or not. (Um, in that I leave the air on, not that the cats have magical cooling properties or something.)

i don't think a fan would be enough any other type of cooling system would probably be to costly. if really had to bc toys melted in my area i'd buy a mini fridge and stick my best/most expensive toys that might melt in it

One of those little portable wine coolers would be perfect if you didn't mind the see-through door. The one I have was well under $100.
I really can't see the need though. If it's too hot for toys, it's too hot for me. So the thermostat gets lowered. Now, if I was hiding my toys in the attic, it might be a different situation.

A humidor for our fleshlights and giant jelly dildos. Sounds pretty decadent.

If I had something that was very dear to me or discontinued that cost a lot of money that might melt and if I lived in a place where it would get warm enough for it to melt (I live in the UP of Michigan, that much heat is not happening any time soon lol) I would just stick it in the refrigerator right next to the mayonnaise

I would have to be a millionaire to go that far, For now, home a/c will have to due.

I put maybe. Like many others, I do not like jelly or Cyberskin toys, plus I have A/C in the house. I can't imagine investing in A/C for just a toy box, but a warmer? Now a toy warmer might be kind of nice! (I still wouldn't invest in one unless I become independently wealthy though.)

If I had the money to spend on something like that I might I think it would be great to have some thing to warm up the toys or lubes

Nah. It sounds expensive and not a thing I have to worry about with my current selection.

I could never invest in such a thing. I feel like it would just be a waste of money. I'd rather buy the Jopen line too.

I love this idea. Mini fridge for sodas and toys. Now that I'd spend money on but not ac toy storage.

I don't know about jelly or rubber but TPE only begins to degrade around 120-140 degrees F. I guess if you're going on a road trip it'd be smart to put it in a cooler or something, but unless you live in the desert with no AC, it shouldn't be necessary. Surely even jelly could withstand at least 100 degree weather out of the sun.

I just want a storage unit that separates everything by material and use!

I suspect toys are "melting" due to chemical degradation from cleaning and lubes rather then temperature. Even in those cases, however, a cooler temp cold slow and breakdown process. We have free standing ice makers, towel warmers, wine chillers, cooled humidors for cigars, and other small heated and cooled appliances. In fact, there are AC/DC ice chests and mini heating/cooling devices, for cars, to keep food and beverages heated and cooled using solid state systems (no freon), so making such a TOY CHEST...to preserve toys that could easily cost more then some wine bottles, might be a great idea, and worth it!!! Interesting idea, indeed. THANKS.

I agree with you. Long before TOYS would "MELT", I suspect the people in those homes would have FAR worse problems.

Even at 109 in the house (that is VERY hot), your toys should not, and likely are NOT "melting". They are simply breaking down from poorly "cured" plastics or insufficiently mixed and hardened polymers. Jelly toys, over time, continue to break down due to volatile chemicals still in the mix of their makeup (it is why they SMELL so strong sometimes). Good silicone, and other materials will not exhibit this "melting" type breakdown.

I just bought a great COlEMAN AC/DC beverage heating/cooling chest, on wheels, with a nice handle, drain spigot and all accessories and it cost me under $60 on sale....so NO, such a device is certainly NOT going to have to "cost a small fortune".
