Start with 1 finger then 2 - once you get comfortable with that get a 1.25" butt plug - than 1.5". Depending upon your partner - once you can handle the 1.5", you should be ready to try anal sex.

This formula worked well for us - after 23 years of no - my wife now actually likes anal sex and will ask for it.

Good luck - and go slow with plenty of lube.

The meteorite wouldn't be a bad place to start, but there are other pretty small options out there.

The Li'l End by Doc Johnson is fairly slim, and comes in purple or grey. It also features a perfectly safe base for anal, and has a slight bulge to give your rectum something to hold onto.

Little Flirt, by Tantus is also a slim plug, coming in at 7/8's of an inch. It comes in red, purple and a beautiful copper color and is made of Tantus's outstanding silicone.

I do caution you to try to look into materials that are higher on the Eden safety scale, as anything towards the lower end can harbor bacteria that could make you sick.

For a definitive list of materials offered here check the Materials Guide. It starts at 1 (which are materials that are less safe) and goes up to 10 (materials that are the safest available at this time). Please remember that no material is perfectly safe, and the anal cavity can be injured if you go too large or too hard, too fast.

You will also want to find a good lube. That is up to you personally, but I recommend Maximus by Bodywise Limited. It is a thick water based lube that works great for most users, but if you are sensitive to parabens you should probably look into the Sliquid line as most (if not all) of their lubes are paraben free. I can't personally attest to their efficacy for anal use, but many swear by Sliqyid's products.

If you ever need help with anal toys, don't be afraid to ask someone for help. Some of the people I turn to (even if just their reviews and articles) for help and advice are:

Trysexual
ToyTimeTim

there really are countless others (these are just the people that seem to answer my questions without ever having to actually ask them) that will try to help you find the right anal toys for yourself, as none of us that enjoy anal play want anyone to have a painful/horrendous experience with it.

I'm almost always around to offer help with finding a toy/advising on anal use of toys.

we have a small butt plug called the "glo slim" by doc johnson. It's very comfortable, my boyfriend can put it in comfortably whenever and it's a great beginners toy. It's small, but not so small you can't feel it.

Doc Johnson's Mood Naughty are very slim. The small is 2 3/4 inches in circumference. It's quite tapered and easy to insert. I highly recommend it for beginners.
