So yesterday, I got the Mantric Siena Rondo in the mail for my first ever video review. It's neat looking. A sort of pale lemon yellow with wrinkles and girth. It's hospital grade silicone and runs on four AAA batteries. And it smells like Desitin.

I've heard of all sorts of odd smells. My favorite are the ones that smell like new beach-balls fresh out of the package. For some reason, I really dig that smell. But Desitin? I'm not even sure how that works.

So... weird smelling toys, y'all? What's the weirdest smelling toy you've received?

I swapped a toy once and when I got it it smelled like black licorice.

I wrote to Red and told her it came and smelled really good, figured it was something she used to clean it with. I made sure to say black licorice, though, instead of anise.

Cuz, yanno, a small misread and she'd have been emailing me back going... wait? what? It does NOT smell like anus!


She actually emailed back with something along the lines of "mmmmm, anise"

After which I had to tell her why I didn't say anise and...

The whole thing amused me greatly.

Silicone itself doesn't smell but it does pick up smells. I keep a sachet of lavendar and vanilla bean in one of my boxes and all those toys smell faintly of it.

I'd bet the Desitin smell comes from whatever they use to clean or lube up their silicone.

Mmmm, baby butt!

We got a toy once that smelled very much like model glue. It made me kinda nervous, and Alan wanted to throw it out as soon as we opened it!

Well, it didn't arrive smelling this way, but it was the worst smell I've had on a toy. I had a vibrator that, after use, would smell like there was acid burning its way through the inside of the toy. That acrid smell, combined with the toy starting to rattle with age, scared the shit out of me. I was terrified that it would explode the next time I used it!

Though I got turned off jelly pretty quick, I've had some manky smelling jelly toys that just made me feel a bit ill when I pulled them out of the box. However, most recently I was REALLY surprised by the Pleasure Dome silicone cap for the Hitachi. When I opened its little plastic baggie it smelt like...chemical laced cum. I know that sounds wildly inappropriate, but something about it was almost like a bodily fluid combined with just extra manufactured ick factor. I was really surprised seeing as most silicone smells very faintly, if at all. I washed it with antibacterial soap and hot water twice and left it to soak and it still kind of smells a bit. Next up with be giving it a boil, but I'm not impressed and kind of feeling a bit uncertain that it's pure silicone.
