If you're really new to anal... and if you have a partner, play time with fingers first and short, smooth fingernails and/or surgical gloves. Don't forget to use plenty of lube. If your partner is adventurous, rimming is very nice before the lube.

I'm no expert but I would suggest wearing a butt plug, starting from a small one and slowly building yourself up to a larger one over time. Personally I love the njoy pure plugs which come in small, medium and large.
