Why do you think there is such a difference of opinion about how strong different vibes are?

Contributor: Gracie Gracie
After spending a few months here I have noticed that we don't agree about which vibes are the strongest. Why do you think that is? I have a few possible ideas, but I'm sure you have more. Tell me what you think!

Our preferences for buzzy vs deep rumbly vibes get confused with the strength of the vibes

There is a lot of variation in the vibrators themselves. (we are not getting the same stimulation from the vibrators themselves)

I just think some people are more sensitive than others

Personal sensitivity is the most likely culprit, I think. After all, some women have clits of steel and others are so sensitive that they only need feather-light stimulation.

I think it's a little bit of the second option but a TON of the first. Our bodies are all soooooo different. Particularly, the older you are, the stronger the vibrations you need. So the Hitachi Wand is going to be unbearable for someone like me, who is a young 22 and new-ish to sex toys (only been using them for so many months), but it's going to be Heaven for an older woman, especially one who is used to sex toys.

Genetics. There's some interpretation, but mostly that.

Each person will have their own perception of vibration strength. Kinda like each person has a different pain threshold. One might find something intense while another person will perceive this same sensation as weaker.

Some people, like me, take a lot stronger vibrations to get off (think 4 or 5 vrooms). Therefore, I would always give a toy less vrooms than someone who is more sensitive.

Many people have differing sensitivity in spots in their own anatomy based on how close the nerves are to the surface or how sensitive the nerds are overall. So I think you can have a good overall average strength but it will vary slightly between people.

I voted for almost all of your options! That's one reason it pays to read all of the reviews for a product. It's also very useful to know which reviewers @ EF have similar preferences. Isn't EF great!

Some people are more sensitive than others. I think some (like me) need more power to orgasm than others lol

I think that your idea of separate vroom ratings for rabbit toys that you made in the rabbit thread I started was a pretty awesome idea. I know that sometimes the internal part vibrates stronger than the external clitoral part so having the option to separately rate the vroom for each would be a neat idea!

Personal preferences, sensitivity and comparison with other vibrators a person has used. Everyone has different ways of describing how intense something is to them...it is relative to the reviewer.

To each their own...differing sensitivities is common.

Thank you guys! I'm starting to feel better. I have been watching y'all for a while now and I had almost psyched myself up in to attempting a review. A few weeks ago I got all my clit vibes out and had a comparison session. I made a recomendation and she bought a vibe and she hates it! She said it was way too weak for her. I feel terrible! I feel good about what I said, but I keep wondering why we feel so differently?!? How do you deal with that? It made me wonder if we were talking about the same vibrator!

I agree with most other that some people are just more sensitive than others, it can also depend on the day. I know within someone body two parts that are identical can be different sensitivities. I cannot stand to have butterfly clamps on my left nipple, it hurts like hell, but my right nipple can tolerate it for a couple minutes.

Don't feel bad Gracie, what one person likes another might not. My body is not very sensitive so I need some type of climax cream-gel along with powerful vibes at least a good 4 vroom but preferable 5 vroom and it still might not work for me. It has to be rumbly and not have any buzzy tendencies at all. It can't be too loud that it distracts me.

If I don't use arousal creams or gels even super powerful vibes won't do it for me. I have to have that combination of power and a jump start with an arousal gel or I might as well forget climaxing for that session.

Personally I used to be a fan of "area" stimulation, like what the hitachi would do, pin-point used to overstimulate me to the point of almost hurting.. but with other vibes which are pretty strong I have learned to enjoy pin-point stimulation.

I'm gonna go for our bodies are different and we interpret the same info different ways. We also have our own preferences as well, though.

I also think that it's personal experience. If you've only had a 1 vroom toy before, when you try a 3 vroom toy it's going to be "OMG strong!" I think that it's the same with comparing the Hitachi to the Acuvibe to the Mimi. If you only have one or two of them, you just vote for that because it's "really strong."

It also depends on what type of vibration you like.

This is not all age-related. I'm way older than 22 and can hardly tolerate a Hitachi. It's about physiology...see Rin's answer above.

Exactly. Between this and toy experience (like Ryuson said) some people think a particular toy is MEGA strong, when in reality, it's only MEGA strong to them because of their limited toy experience, or their sensitivity to vibrations.

I don't find this to be a problem, because I have learned which reviewers (in my opinion) tend to over-estimate a toy's power. Then, when I read their reviews about any toy, I just keep that in mind.

It was more of a general statement. Generally-speaking, the older you are/more experienced you are with vibrators, the stronger vibrations you need.
