It's a very complex subject, especially when trying to explain to others who aren't familiar with the dynamic (and if there are prejudgements based on either media or popular entertainment). The best example we can give is our own, which you've illustrated beautifully. I was merely giving a general summary.

I'm actually about 8 months older than my current partner. The oldest age difference I've ever been a part of though was about 5 years.

The biggest age gap in a relationship for me was 5 years. He was 5 years older, I was still in high school... it was a really bad situation and it ended badly. Definitely the worst relationship I've ever had. My current partner is a bit less than a year and we've happily been together for nearly 4 years.

My fiance is just about 4 months older than me. We've been together for over 5 years and we're getting married this summer.
I know it's not a big age difference, but I really like that we're just about the same age.
