Definitely not. It would be different if it was like his little joke statement, haha. Or even if you had been 16 yourself and he so much older.

The fact of the matter is that you two have been together for so long and made it work, because ... more

I always heard the comment of half your age + 7 for the age difference to be socially acceptable. I don't know who came up with that concept, but effectively as you get older this age difference gets larger + is less of a potential complication.

I know that currently in most states I'd be arrested for dating someone 16 years my junior, and there is so much of a difference in life experiences that I would feel more like a mentor than a peer. I personally always try to date someone that I can see as a peer and share in life equally. Now if there was someone who challenged me, I felt on equal footing with, and happened to be 16+ years my junior (when legal) then age is just a number... Same would go for dating someone that much older than me. Thankfully, not an issue either way for me currently.

As a male though, statistically my partner would outlive me so dating someone so much younger would only set them up to suffering the loss of a SO later.

may make me a hypocrite but honestly i feel that i have had alot of experience with this. i was married to someone 15 yrs older than me and my whole life i have dated men 11 to 20 yrs older than me and they usually fail because in the end love isnt enough cause there is so much difference from the age difference bein too big.

I dont think it should matter at all anyway, so I voted, "Who cares?" My boyfriend is 8 years older than me, almost 9, and we have two children together, so how could I judge you or tell you how many years is too much? Just as long as you're both happy, that's what should matter!
