I've had a curiosity about whether or not a penis is naturally supposed to be straight or somewhat curved. My husband has a slight curve in his penis. When I researched it on the internet, I found that it is normal for a penis to have a slight curve but it is also normal for some to be "straight as an arrow."

Sometimes, if a penis is severely curved, it has to be corrected with surgery.

Now, my question is: is your penis curved or straight? or is your partners?

I find this very intriguing and it made me wonder which is more common: completely straight or slightly curved.

I recently read that a sharply curved penis is often caused by botched circumcision - it causes the tension on one side to be more than the other. I'd be interested to know if anybody's seen a dramatically curved, uncircumcised penis.

Well my husband is uncircumcised and he has a very slight curve. But more like a normal body curve. Nothing all that noticeable. Matter of fact I really had to think about it before I answered on the poll.

I wanted to include this in the poll but I didn't want to make it too complicated. I wondered if a curved penis was a result of circumcision.

My husband was circumcised. His penis is definitely noticeably curved, but it doesn't look abnormal. It's just a slight curve. After Red Routlette's comment, I wonder if it was because of circumcision? This is all very interesting!

As far as I know, the curvature of a man's penis is genetic.

During my research, I did not find that it is genetic. I'm not saying that you're wrong of course, I just wanted to let you know that I didn't find that. I found that it's not genetic and that a penis with a slight curve lacks explanation.

One side of the penis may have more spongy tissue, causing a slight curve.

Not all parts of our bodies are totally symmetrical, so you can't expect a penis to be either. I suppose that is really the most believable explanation of a penis with a slight curve and a penis that is straight.

All I'm saying is that I've seen curved and straight penises that were circumcised and uncircumcised, so I don't think circumcision is the cause. And I definitely don't think masturbation is the cause; if masturbation could morph a person's genitals, my labia would be down to my ankles.

But if it's the way you're built (how much tissue you have in certain places), doesn't that make it genetic? IE, it's just the way you're put together?

I was only joking about 'most men I have spoken to' comment - I gathered that was probably the case! I love your turn of phrase:

The article I read about circumcision said that many penises had a slight curve, but an exaggerated 'curve' was caused by an irregular 'cut' during circumcision, meaning that the skin was shorter on one side than the other - and as most circumcisions are performed on infants, it would be reasonable that a mismatched 'cut' could cause the development of an exaggerated curve.

I got this from an article by Dr Paul Fleiss:

"Depending on the amount of skin cut off and how the scar forms, a circumcised penis may be permanently twisted, or curve or bow during erection."

You all know my feelings on the issue, but I just wanted to clarify that I've got a pretty good reason for think the theory carries weight - I didn't just pull it out of my ass (or base my opinion on anecdotal observation.)

Although I'm not in the habit of looking at them now, I've seen a lot of penises (peni?)in person - more than I'll ever admit. I think approximately 80-90% of them had at least some curving. Some curve to the side, some up; I even saw one that curved down when erect. I haven't actually seen that many that were completely straight when erect.
I'm not weighing in on why this happens - just reporting my, ummm... personal findings.

LOL! I am in total agreement. I've seen a lot in person and it's about half and half on curved v. non-curved. One that was curved stands out in my mind because it was VERY curved. Mind-blowingly curved.

My husband' is straight but I love it anyway.

Hmm.. I suppose when I think of genetic it seems like it was something that's passed down - meaning that the father had a curved penis. I don't think there's a gene that specifies if a penis will be straight or curved.. But I suppose there could be.

From what I found, no one really knows that much about the reason for it..

The masturbation thing is false.

Men usually have a slight curve in there penis depending on how they place there penis in there boxers (left or right). I learnt this stuff recently in my psychology of sexuality course. So a man that has as slight curve to the left for example usually places there penis to the left while wearing boxers. I know it sounds bogus but apparently it is scientifically sound (or else my prof wouldnt have mentionned it).

A severly curved penis can be due to circumcision but a slight curve is certainly not due to masturbating with the same hand. I am not sure who came up with this but it is definitely a myth.

So it is unlikely it is a genetic thing. If a male has the same slight curve as his father, then his father and he likely place there penis the same way in their boxers. Perhaps, the father even told his son (or suggested) that one angle was better then the other. Tada!

Unfortunately, you wouldn't believe the crap that is taught in schools which is not scientifically sound. This could be but just because it came from a professor doesn't mean it's true.

Not saying I necessarily agree with the tucking theory, but some guys are small enough when they're flaccid that they can just let it lie, or they can tuck it up against their pelvic bone.

That's true.. I don't have a penis so I can't really identify with the need to tuck, etc...

The tucking theory would suggest that constant tension curves a penis, right? If this is true, then it would seem that the masturbation theory could possibly have some sprinkles of truth, though it seems far fetched.

My penis has been very curved since birth, or at least the earliest I can remember getting an erection, which was something like 5 years old. It actually curves straight downward.

Funny thing is, some women love it, some hate it (about 50/50 split). Downsides - not so good for penetration at some angles, because it less "reach". Upside - excellent for g-spot stimulation in reverse cowgirl/doggy style.

When I was younger I tried "straightening" it through various methods of underwear re-arrangement, but nothing really worked. It always went back to its original shape. Today, I'm happy with it - seems as I get older (and met older women) more were interested in g-spot stimulation than younger women. But there are still times when I wish I could do the standing-sex thing guys with straight or upward-curved penises can do.

My husband's is tucked to the side that it curves to as well.. he said it just lays that way, not intentional by him. I'm not sure if it curved because of that, but it seems more like it lays that way because it is slightly curved.. who knows
