Sex after prostate surgery.

Contributor: ToyTimeTim ToyTimeTim
I was talking to my dad tonight and asked him if he and his wife still enjoyed sex, he is pushing 70 but has always been a horn dog. (Runs in the family) Anyway he recently had prostate surgery, I believe he said it was removed. Since then he has not been able to have sex. The doctor gave them some suggestions but they did not work for them.

Does any body have any knowledge about this and or some suggestions? I am sorry I do not know the specifics any more that what I said above. I just would like to help him out if I can.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am sorry to her that, my grandpa, my dads dad, died of prostate cancer about 10 years ago.

That is the #1 reason I found Eden, I was looking for a prostate massager to promote better prostate health. I figured that I would do all that I can to keep my prostate healthy.

Anything beyond prosthetics I have no idea unless he is comfortable using a strap-on. There are some units that cradle the penis but I don't know if they will give him much in terms of feeling.
Positive thoughts to him from here as well.

Thank you Airen, do you know if when the prostate is removed a person loses their ability to get a erection? Dad did not really want to talk about it.

That sounds miserable and I hope he finds a way to make it work.

One of the potential unfortunate side effects of prostate surgery is damage to the surrounding nerves. I believe (not positive) that if this is the case, he still has sensation, but has lost the ability to maintain a meaningful erection. If that is the case, then potential solutions would be ED drugs (Viagra, Cialis, Levitra, etc.), cock ring/pump, implant, or prosthetic/strap-on, at least off the top of my head.

Hopefully he's talked to his doctor about this since there are options available. I'm hoping for the best for him.

Maybe this article will be helpful.

In a nutshell, it says the best option is a penis pump.
Hope that helps.

If his prostate was removed and the nerves were damaged, he may not respond to ED drugs like Viagra, Cialis ect.

There is a surgical procedure, in which an air or fluid filled tube is surgically placed into the penis, there is a small hand "pump" near the testes and the penis can be pumped up this way. Some men achieve arousal while this is being done, and some do it to satisfy their partners. There is also a procedure in which a rigid implant is placed into the penis. The problem here is that unless the one with the hinge is used, the man has a permanent "erection". Although that "erection" is usually without the blood engorgement of a regular erection, depending on how badly the nerves were damaged and if and how badly the vascular structure of the penis was damaged. Even with the hinge, he has a permanent "erection" but it is pointing downward when not in use. (Both of these are also used in reassignment surgeries.)

He really needs to talk to his urologist to see about his options. There are options, sex probably will not be like it was before the surgery, sadly enough. But, it is better than NO sex at all.

That's OK.

I will pass this on, and thanks again.

All of everybody's help is the reason I brought up the subject with my dad, I was going to get him to join Eden, I was thinking he and his wife would like to "Spice it up" some and felt they would really like some of the products and what-not. I did tell him about the awesome help and support this community gives so freely, this is exactly what I mean.

I have said it many times and will say it again, THIS PLACE ROCKS!

Dwtim - I hope your Dad finds something. It's not fun to get older and the prostate can cause problems for a lot of men. Once it's been removed, I'm not really sure what can be done. His best (and safest) bet would be to talk to his doctors. For men who still have their prostate, frequent ejaculation is believed to be important to keep it healthy (really) and helps to avoid prostatitis (a prostate infection).

Thanks for your well wishes.

I agree all most every thing I have read points to what you say, that's what brought my to this fine community. I love the fact that prostate stimulation can also be so pleasurable and healthy.
