Semen is made up of a large variety of things. It's usually made up of about 65% fluid from the seminal vesicles, 30 to 35% from the prostate, and 5% from the vasa. It contains zinc, potassium, prostaglandin, citric acid, free amino acids, fructose, enzymes, and phosphorylcholine. Why does it taste sweet? This is because semen contains fructose – a type of sugar. This little bit of sugar nourishes the sperm which have to travel a distance of about 100,000 times their own length in order to make it to their destination. Only about 3% of semen is the sperm itself – the rest is helpful additives to help it make the journey.

I've never felt like semen tasted sweet. I always consider it to be salty, and I don't like the taste so I rarely do blowjobs.

I agree, I never think it tastes very sweet. Maybe what my boyfriend eats? I love giving him bjs and would happily swallow, but something about the smell of semen makes me feel sick to my stomach :/

Different partners have tasted different to me, and I always attribute the differences to diet. I've never had anyone make a concerted effort to change his taste, but one boyfriend who drank Monster energy drinks routinely had semen that tasted deliciously like citric acid and vitamin C. People who drink coffee lots often taste more bitter. There's a slight difference between omnivores and vegetarians, but it seems like beverage of choice has had the most noticeable effect.

I didn't know most of that, but I did know you could eat differently to affect the taste of your semen. Like pineapple makes semen very bitter.

Thanks for posting! This is very interesting info. Different partners always taste different to me. I did date a big coffee drinker and would not give him a bj after the first. It was a terrible taste! Only noticed a few sweet ones, mostly salty tasting. One who took blood pressure and cholesterol meds tasted awful as well. Is it true asparagus makes semen taste good?

Another cool fact:

Women who have unprotected sex with their partner (where the partner ejaculates in them) generally have lower rated of depression than those who use condoms. Apparently semen gets you 'high'. From a biological standpoint, it makes sense.

And these women who are having unprotected sex like this can actually go through "withdrawals" and have a period of mild depression between times of sex.

I haven't personally, because I don't have semen of my own seeing as I'm female, but I did have my guy start eating pineapple and drinking pineapple juice to see if it would help his stuff become any less bitter. Totally worked. And within that same day. It was amazing and now he eats/drinks pineapple basically every day.

Best fruit ever.

lt definitely doesn't make semen taste bitter, though I suppose it could for some person... But that just doesn't seem right, chemically. It's super sweet and tart, not bitter at all. Coffee drinkers, in my experience, have been the bitter ones.

I've tried altering my diet for this purpose and only had limited success according to my ex. My current doesn't really enjoy giving blowjobs and has never tasted my semen so I don't really worry about it these days. A good thing too, what with all the coffee I drink. Cigarettes make it pretty bad too I hear.
