Condoms & Pregnancy

Contributor: Shaelote Shaelote
Is anyone else absolutely paranoid about getting pregnant? I'm with one partner, we are both clean and monogamous in a committed relationship. I'm on birth control (the three-months-without-a -period type) but we always use condoms. I've never had sex without one, but I'd really like to try it with him.

My problem? I'm terrified of an "oops." Even if we just mess around (rubbing against each other pre-sex) I'm afraid his pre-come will get me pregnant. Has anyone else had this issue? How did you get over your fear?

Um, I had a slight fear when I first got with my boyfriend. I'm on the depo shot.
And at first we used condoms, but I HATED, HATED it... then one night we got way drunk and didn't use condoms... Annnnnd, it was amazing. We haven't had an oops yet. But we've been together for three years. I've never had an oops moment, an I get pregnancy tested each time I get the shot.
Also, he and I have discussed it and although we both want kids, we're not really preparing for it.

I am on the mini pill and I do worry but I have had 3 kids and numerous other non-viable pregnancies so I know my body and when it's ready to conceive.

you can get pregnant from being on the pill, but if your not having a period it will be much harder to even get pregnant. You have to have period to ovulate, if your not ovulating your can't get pregnant.

i have been having sex on birth control pills for 3 years without a condom and have never gotten pregnant. the only way it can happen is if you take antibiotics or miss a pill.

I don't have that worry, I was fixed in 99 so I couldn't have anymore kids. I would kinda like to have another though, but that's impossiable now.

I was on the pill for about 6 months before I started having sex, we never used a condom, and I didn't get pregnant.

It's a small, remote chance that the pill will fail. But if you take it properly, on time, don't miss pills...that chance is so so small I wouldn't worry about it!

There is a fair amount of debate behind whether or not pre-ejaculate actually contains sperm or not. We use the withdrawal method primarily with a bit of natural family planning...one planned pregnancy and no others, in 8 years...You could always ask him to "pull out" to lessen the chances even more! Not saying pulling out is exactly a stellar birth control method for everyone, but if you're already protected, it won't matter much either way anyways!

I use condoms religiously now since I have stopped Depo due to it messing with my cycle. We have started having sex without a condom but always finish with it on. No issues yet.
