Phthalate Free PVC/Plastic toys and their safety.

Contributor: Sex Positivity Sex Positivity
My Mono is showing up this Thursday for me to review. The material has an '8' safety reading, but I really have no idea what that means.

Is this toy safe to insert into my body without a condom?

If you click on the materials on the product page, it will take you to their material safety page. Here is the page for Phthalate-free PVC and here is the page for plastic. Good luck!

Yeah, I've seen both of these pages, but neither says anything about it being safe for insertion with/without a condom.

I'm not finding any information the subject on google, either.

Neither has phtalates and plastic isn't porous. PVC, to my knowledge, IS porous so the short answer is that you'd have to use a condom if you share this toy with someone else. If you don't, no harm, no foul, but you run the risk of the toy absorbing bacterias that you can't get out.

The toy would be used only by me and only vaginally. I assume I'll use it both ways, for the sake of the review.

If you want to write a good review, write it from your own point-of-view. If you want to write a GREAT review, write it from the points-of-view for as many people as you can think of. By this I mean, even if you don't use it anally or with another person, think about the reader who is perusing your review who MIGHT. Include that the toy IS porous and that if you're going to share it, use a condom. Though while we're on the subject, the Mono should not be used anally, anyway, because it does not have a flared base, retrieval cord, or similar method and it is not a ridiculously long length that would make it safe for anal.

Oh, no no no. I meant both with a condom and without. I know about retrieval cords and flared bases - I wouldn't risk getting it lost up there.

Oh, okay! I thought I might have misunderstood you but I wasn't quite sure so I wanted to be safe. And I'm so glad to see a new writer who is educating themselves about sex toys so that they can write better reviews. We need more people like you and I'm sure that you will only get better and maybe even go far. Good luck!

Thanks so much for your kind words. I may be new to the program and not necessarily trusted or revered in the community, but I'm involved to not only educate myself, but educate others. I really want to get further involved with the community, but the only way to do that is just to be active. Hopefully you'll be seeing me around.

No problem! I'm sure you'll do well. And if you ever feel that you need help with your reviews, never hesitate to use the Mentor Program (again, as I see you're already in it), even if you've been here for years. Mentors are kind and you're likely to find one who is willing to help you just for the sake of helping you. I became quickly educated on (mainly) vibrators and then one day, I had to review a lubricant review and I felt like the dumbest writer in the world, even though my past reviews received some pretty impressive votes. I informally approached a mentor and sought advice in the forums and I have to say, I'm pretty darn proud of my lube reviews now. So just remember there are always people willing to help you. We're a very welcoming community and we like to see others succeed. In fact, feel free to message me if you have any questions which you think I might be able to answer.
