Birth Control symptom help

Contributor: ordinaryak ordinaryak
When i started dating my BF- i began birth control for the first time, i started with the Depo provera shot because most women in my fmaily have not had good luck NOT getting pregnant using the pill.

So i have been on the Depo shot for approx 7 years. when i went in to get my last shot the nurse wanted to talk to me about it, she wanted me to think about awitching becuase
#1. i had been on it so long
and
#2. i had gain inthose 7 years about 45 pounds.

other then the weight gain, i had no problematic symptoms. i thought about it and decide to try switching to the Pill, as i have hated being so overweight.
we (me and my bf) decided to use the pill along with condoms and spermicide.

ive been on the Pill so far a total of 2 1/2 weeks and i dont know if i can take it!
my boobs hurt so bad i cant remove my bra, even slight brushing of them makes me cringe.
me and my BF tried to have sex 3 nights ago and imedietly after my orgasm i got such severe cramping i cried (and im one of those people who rarely cries over pain) it lasted 20 minutes before sumsiding.

then this morning i had an orgasm in my sleep and was imedietly woken up to the same severe cramping-only this time i began dry heaving due to how severe the pain was. it lasted about 20 minutes again.

i dont know what to do, if i should stick it out with the pill or what! has anyone ever had symptoms like this? what did you do?

I had the same problems when I took the pill, so I switched to the Depo shot.

Honestly, I would just go back to the shot if that's what worked for you. 45 lbs in 7 years is nothing (I gained 80lbs with the pills and shot, but I've always been overweight and thanks to my diet and exercise, I lost almost all of it) and I've only been on the shot for 3 years.

Another thing I would consider is looking for a different doctor. If what you're using is working fine and you haven't had any problems, there's no reason for them to suggest you switching- ESPECIALLY if your calcium levels aren't abnormally low on the shot, since it increases risk of bone thinning and diseases.

If you're looking for another pill though or don't want to go back on the shot, talk to your doctor about it again and tell her you're having bad symptoms. Generally, high pain levels and sensitivity are not good signs, and if it's so bad it's interfering with not only your sex life but even your sleep and taking your bra off, I would take that as a sign that your body is not happy with the pills you're on.

That sucks! Your body is probably going through a bit of an adjustment period right now. Have you menstruated since going off depo? You may have a troublesome period this month, but your symptoms should continue to get better.

The severity of your pain made me worried that you could be experiencing appendicitis or even heart problems, don't just write it off as lady issues. Being woken up by pain is generally a bad sign. Keep an eye on it.

If the pill continues to give you side-effects you don't like, you could try a different dose/formulation.This chart has some good information about different pills and their side effects.

Wow. If that was me I would stop taking it immediately and try to talk to my doctor. But the people above me probably know better. Sorry it's so bad! But it's definitely not something to ignore and hope it gets better!

Well, it doesnt seem like alot of weight-but ever since i started the depo, ive been doing nothing BUT diet and excercise, ive cut out all butter, dairy and most sugars, i havent eaten at a resurant in at least 4 years, i dont drink anything but water (not even coffee or tea) i eat small portions and i have 2 extremly high energy dogs so for the past 3 years i take a 2-4 hour walk everyday, in the summer along with that walk we will go swimming and i will encourage my dogs to swim by running thru the water back and forth and also swim thru the water-we do this everyday in the warm weather for about 2 hours, then walk home. i began doing body rock on youtube every day- and i havent lsot a single pound and only gain, had my thyroid checked and am on no other meds to cause weight gain.

Depo fools the body into thinking it is pregnant thus weight gain is a major symptom and most struggle to lose it for even months after switching off the shot. The shot is not for extreme long term use do to the risk of it affecting the fertility of women who take it for long periods of time. The symptoms you have are not normal for the pill and I would suggest talking to your doctor about switching to a different type of pill. A progesterone/estrogen combo might work better for you if you are on a single hormone contraceptive right now. The cramping is slightly normal if you haven't been having your periods for the last 7 years due to the depo-shot. I would talk to your OBGYN or find a new OBGYN if you do not feel as if your current one is listening to you and helping you the way they should.

A lot of things can happen when you start/stop the pill. The breast pain will probably go away, it may just be a new shot of hormones stirring things up. Does the cramping have anything to do with where you are at in your cycle? It could just be, again, new hormones that your body is trying to get used to. I'd give it a full pack, at least, unless the pain is absolutely unbearable. You could also talk to your doc about switching to a pill that is less potent.
