Bleeding After Sex?

Contributor: Eliza Eliza
My partner and I have been together for just over a year now, and he and I have been having sex basically our entire relationship. We've never had any problems until very recently.

We used condoms for birth control until about December when I went on the pill. For a month or so we used both condoms and my pill, until we knew I was adjusted to it, and then we stopped using condoms. About a month and a half ago I started feeling sharp pain right at the opening of my vagina after sex, which was more severe if I orgasmed while being penetrated. Once or twice when this happened I would bleed a little bit, which I attributed to not being lubed well enough or just general roughness. Since nothing is entirely consistent, I'm not sure what to do. The Mayo Clinic website basically says it's nothing to worry about, but I got a little freaked out because last night I bled more than I have any other time (but I'm probably also ovulating right now, so maybe that was it?). Also, I take my pill religiously and have been getting regular periods, so I'm not worried about pregnancy, and we're entirely monogamous, so STDs are out of the picture too.

I have my yearly gyno appt scheduled for August. Is it worth moving it up to get this checked out? Anyone have any experience with this?

Have you taken a mirror to the area so that you can inspect it? Or do you feel any bumps on the inside of the vaginal walls? If so, it could be a case of vaginal warts. If not, then it might be a lubrication issue.

What I would do in this situation is call my OB/GYN and ask the receptionist what the doctor thinks. If you can get in earlier, take the appointment. If nothing else than for peace of mind. If you're dreading the end result, it could lead to avoidance of the activity all together and August is a bit aways in terms of knocking off the nookie until the appointment.

What I would do in this ... more
I've checked it out. I don't have any bumps or really anything abnormal that I can see or feel other than the pain/sometimes bleeding. And it doesn't usually last at all. I don't know. We certainly are stopping having sex, but we're being a bit more gentle until we figure it out.
