Has anyone experienced a change in nipple color?

My nipples and areolas (areolae?) are normally a subtle shade of "rose petal" translucent pink. Last night, when I was getting undressed, I noticed that my nipples were purple (no change in areolar color). I was not sexually aroused, I'm about a week from my period, and I didn't have any kind of chafing or injury.

The next morning, they were pink again.

I know that nipples can change color during puberty, pregnancy and when breast-feeding, but those aren't really factors for me.

Has anyone else experienced this? Is it a medical problem or just a weird curiosity?

I never have. Like you said, they do change with breast feeding and pregnancy, but if you are neither, keep an eye on it. Ask your doctor if it continues.

Seconded. I don't want to send you screaming into your doctor's office, but women are often warned to keep an eye on nipple changes---discharge, color, how the nipple itself sits (inverted) when discussing breast cancer.

I've never had purple nipples but I have had them become super sore for a day or two then just as mysteriously return to normal. And they weren't sore from stimulation. They just became that way on their own.

I think there was an episode of CSI where a woman put a sedative on her nipples to render a particular man she seduced unconscious. The sedative changed her nipple color. I assume you weren't doing that.
