This is a great post. I have wondered about these too, but I've never tried them.

If you read up on a bunch of the sellers and/or hang around on livejournal groups devoted to the topic, you can generally find out when giveaways or very cheap sales of samples are happening, which is an easy way to try just one and see how you like them.

Especially likely are the pads that are free/cheap because the seller made a sewing mistake on them that doesn't affect the function but looks cruddy (if you're not into showing other people your "beautiful pads" then it shouldn't matter what they look like).

I think switching to cloth pads is one of the best things I ever did for myself. My period stressed me out so much during teenage/adolescent years because nothing was comfortable. I ruined so many clothes because I didn't want to wear anything due to pain/discomfort/infect ions. Finally I started using cloth after my daughter was born and they are so comfortable I don't even notice them most of the time. I have a bunch of different kinds but my favorite is these link The price is awesome and there are so many fabrics. I prefer the fleece to PUL as well. I rinse mine off and keep them in a wet bag and then wash them in the machine as you would anything else. I typically buy dark colored ones but don't really have big issues with staining.
