How do you clean your lady bits?

Contributor: Silverdrop Silverdrop
With all the talk about what chemicals are in our lubricants, I was wondering what the women here used for cleaning. I've been using a product that is sold as a feminine wash and meant to be specially formulated, but I looked on the ingredients list, and it has glycerin.

I think I need to rethink things.

Really, all that's needed is a little water from the shower. I just spread my outer lips and rub a bit while the water is pouring over them. I've always been taught that's the best method because of how easily your body's natural pH can be disturbed.

if you are prone to yeast infections anything besides saline, water or a baby wipe can cause your natural flora to become unbalenced. consult your doctor or pharmacist before use of other products. Good though is if you won't eat it or put it in your mouth don't use it. The flesh down in your bits is similar to your gums in you mouth and is a quick way for chemicals to get into yoru blood stream.

I only use Sliquid Splash - but I'm slightly disappointed in them for changing the product when they changed the labels. Now it doesn't smell nice like it use to.

Just water typically. I never have any issues with infections or anything down there.

Not at all the same thing. Lubricants go IN you and stay there...sometimes for a good long while.

Soaps and body wash are pretty much external and rinsed away when done..in a both or shower.

Thus, if you are not allergic to a specific body wash or soap, it should be find on the "lady bits" same as everywhere else!!!

I love the peppermint and the grapefruit body wash from Ulta, but in a pinch, Jergans and Softsoap shower gel and a few other store brands are fine too!!! Thankfully never had a problem.

Ivory was always sold as MILD, and yet I too cannot use it. No problems with MOST other soaps, but NOT Ivory. Go figure! Nutrogena makes some nice, chemical free, hypoallergenic soft shower soaps that work great.

I use Dove.

Sodium Lauroyl Isethionate, Stearic Acid, Sodium Tallowate, Sodium Palmitate, Lauric Acid, Sodium Isethionate, Water, Sodium Stearate, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Sodium Cocoate, Sodium Palm Kernelate, Sodium Chloride, Tetrasodium EDTA, Tetrasodium Etidronate, Maltol, Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891).

Sounds frightening.

I picked other because I do a combination of most of your answers. Sometimes I just use water. Sometimes I use a specifically designed feminine wash as a body wash. Sometimes I use a body wash all over and wash my vagina with that as well.

When I search recipes to make my own, glycerin soap base is the 1st ingredient.

I use Dr. Bronner's Baby Mild liquid castile soap. I usually wash my outer lips with the soap, then run some cool water over the whole thing to rinse off. Soap only touches my inner lips after my period, to make sure that all residue is gone.

Ingredients: Water, Organic Coconut Oil, Potassium Hydroxide (which dissolves in the soap-making process), Organic Olive Oil, Organic Hemp Oil, Organic Jojoba Oil, Citric Acid, Tocopherol

Good point. I hadn't considered how fleeting the contact with soap or body wash is.

I only use the Sliquid Splash too, but I just started using it a couple of months ago. I didn't know it had been changed, so I'm really happy with it 'cause I never knew what it was like before.

I've discovered that when I use soap to wash, I end up with a stronger scent. If I just use water to wash my lady bits, I have a musky scent, but it's much lighter.
