I was just wondering what other women out there did when it comes to Kegel exercises. There seems to be a tonne of different variations on how you choose to go about it, ranging from different lengths of time to hold the muscles for to different numbers of reps and different aids. I'd love it if you'd let me know what you do yourself and how many reps you do/how long you hold for/how long you release for. Also, I'd be interested to hear what you use as a memory trigger or what your established routine is?
Yup, you are right of course, but I'm making this poll out of selfish female-bodied curiosity to better improve my kegels and see what other ladies out there are doing!
I do the 'elevator' method along with the Smart Ball Teneo Uno in me. I can get a better hang of how my pelvic muscles are flexing with the ball in place.
I actually use true ben wa balls, you know metal and crazy super small. And I do muscle contractions while using them. This is actually a really great thread!
i wanted Ben Wa Balls when i was 19 but couldnt find ne so i used what i had which were "stress reliver balls" they are metal and have little bells inside that make pesent noises when you roll them around your hands i started using those and i also bought a 1 pound dumbbell i put half way up inside, crouch down on my feet with my knees spread and flex my muscles first few times it was so heavy it fell right out but now i can hold it in while i walk around. i use that three tiems a week for an hour a time i might move onto a 2 pound weight if i can find one small enough!
J's Alley, I've been looking at those actually. I have the Smartballs which really are too big for me to be using muscles to hold them in, so they're more of an arousing long-term wear item and sometimes get uncomfortable.
I do them whenever I'm sitting at a red light. I'm a midwife and I tell all of my clients you shouldn't be able to think about Kegels without doing them! Research has shown that the most effective method is long, sustained contraction with a controlled release (just like reps at the gym!) as opposed to quick contractions. I also make up brightly colored stickers for my clients that I give out; people put them on their steering wheel, computer monitor, shower head, you name it!
Lollie I need some of those stickers. I have a couple sets of the exercise balls but always forget to put them in or just forget to do Kegels altogether. It suck casue I really need to do them too.
There was not an option of not doing it, so I am just posting it here. I have been told by my doctor that I should. But I do not do any exercises. Just never really felt the need or want to I guess.

Lollie,
Do you insert anything or just squeeze like your trying to hold your pee in? I tried traditional ben wa balls and had trouble holding them in and really couldn’t feel anything. I’ve seen reviews on smart balls and ben wa balls and they say they can feel the balls moving and can control them. How?

Oh sorry! Don't know how I left that option out. I wish you could edit polls after you publish them, but I guess that's not very practical haha.
Never thought of using weights but I will have to try it.
I also exercise my kegel muscles during masturbation using my toys, being aware of and doing kegel contractions during intercourse, of course is awesome. My b/f totally luvs this!
I need to find out some help on Kegels too. 2 kids later and I'm like the size of Texas in there!! I can't even feel my husband. Sometimes even the Rabbit gets lost in the "rabbit hole" LOL!!
Someone recommended a metal weight-type thing they sell here called an Kegelsisor or something like that. It's pricey, but I am looking into it as I thought it might be of substantial help. From the reviews, it was invented by a doctor.
Any and all advice certainly is welcome!!

Here's some advice on how to find your PC muscle: link Once you've got that down, here's a good, simple description of how to do the exercises: link
You might find it easiest to clench around your toys while using them. You can really tell something's happening that way. It's also fun!
Carrie Ann's review of the Energie describes how to do kegel exercises with toy like this.
Kegel exercises really do work, though like any other exercise, you need to keep it up and give it a little time.
I have the Smart Balls, which I use on occasion. But, I've been doing Kegals since my first pregnancy (the kid is out of college, if you need to know how long I've been doing them) and I do them when I think of them often during the day. While sitting at the computer, while reading, sitting at a train in the car, whatever.
I think it's important to keep those muscles strong.
I squeeze inward (the traditional way) and push outward as well, as I've noticed my muscles contract differently depending on the type of orgasm (former is clitoral, latter is vaginal).
I have the Emigi to try with but for some reason they keep falling out/my body pushes them out. I have to sit with them in, can't walk, feel like I'm laying an egg. Does that mean my kegels are that weak?

It usually does not take long to get used to a smaller sized Kegel exercicer if you had a larger one before. You may also have to contract actively your muscles rather than hope for a passive exercice.
Actually, my mom taught me about kegels when I was a kid, and exercising them while going to the bathroom. The method- just stopping and holding while peeing, repeatedly. From outside it probably sounds like I have a female version of a prostate problem, but it's actually the opposite. It really works.

I've heard differently, that stopping and starting your urine was harmful and causes bladder infections and urinary tract infections.

You should always think about when you get older. You may not see the need to do it now, but everything is connected in the human body, keeping you kegels strong, keeps the muscles around it stronger as well.
