I got it a few years ago--I think I was 18 or 19. In any case, I was young enough that I was still a virgin, and if you haven't engaged in any (or at least very little) sexual activity, I think it's worth it. I'm in no way a medical professional, but I never had any side effects from it, and if it helps to prevent cancer, I'm all for it.

I did. It didn't hurt to get it.

I got it, recommended by my doctor. Seemed like a good idea.

Not to sound rude, I'm just curious, why are you against it?

I plan on waiting to get mine until last minute. You have until 26(?) to get it. And I just want to wait it out and see if it's still recommended at that time. I'm in a monogamous relationship anyways, so getting one would only be a just in case thing. However, I do want to get it. Just waiting it out to see if in 3 years it's still so recommended.

Beck, honey, don't bother with it.

I haven't gotten it (I'm too old, but I wouldn't be surprised if they start recommending it for older women, too, just as they did for boys) and I refused to have my then teen age daughters get it and my 12 year old won't get it, either.

There has been problems with the vaccine, it doesn't protect the way the propaganda says it does, and in general our bodies are attacked by way too many vaccines.

I posted on an other thread the myriad problems with Guardasil, and I refuse to have either myself or my daughters injected with it. They use a fairly harmless virus as a scare tactic to make loads of money, while young women are being harmed by the vaccine.

It hasn't been proven safe. The side effects are many, and most forms of HPV go away on their own with NO sequelae.

Please read this and more articles about the link before you blindly have yourself injected with this dangerous vaccine. It prevents abnormal PAP tests is has little effect on actual HPV, it can cause seizures, strokes, dizziness, fatigue, weakness, headaches, stomach pains, vomitting, muscle pain and weakness, joint pain, auto-immune problems, chest pains, hair loss, appetite loss, personality changes, insomnia, hand/leg tremors, arm/leg weakness, shortness of breath, heart problems, paralysis, itching, rashes, swelling, aching muscles, pelvic pain, nerve pain, menstrual cycle changes, fainting, swollen lymph nodes, night sweats, nausea, temporary vision/hearing loss and other side effects.

More than 100 girls have already died from this vaccine.

You are better off taking a chance with natural HPV. Plus, you aren't making rich people (drug companies) richer if you refuse the vaccine. It doesn't have the efficacy that the makers claim and MOST of the other Health Care Providers (doctors, nurses, LCs, midwives etc) I know have refused to vaccinate their own daughters with it.

I'm too old as well. Even if I weren't too old, I don't think I would get it.

Well, thank you very much for that. I knew there was a reason I wasn't jumping on the wagon to get it.

I actually had contracted HPV some years ago and never got the vaccine but the HPV cleared up on its own in about two years. No ongoing issues with it and all my pap smears have been normal since then. So I really wouldn't bother with the vaccine, but that's just my opinion.

I hope this doesn't sound rude, but I was just wondering if you are opposed to vaccines in general, or just certain ones (like the HPV vaccine). I don't really have a strong opinion either way on Gardasil, but there are some vaccines I'm definitely happy I got because I've traveled to countries where certain infections are really common.

I can't speak for P'Gell, but Gardasil and Cervarix are the only vaccines I am against. I am generally a big fan of vaccines, just not the ones for HPV. Of course, in a couple decades they might have improved vaccines for HPV but at the moment I think they are terrible.

any shot that can help prevent some forms of CANCER are good in my book. a handful of people do die from vaccines, it's rare, but it is not a new thing.

Huh, interesting. I'll be the first to admit my knowledge of medicine is sketchy, but I just assumed that the reactions against the HPV vaccine were knee-jerk "vaccinations are bad" sorts of things so I didn't pay a lot of attention to them. I've already had it, but I'll definitely have to look into it for if/when I have kids of my own.

No, but my girls opted to get it. They asked for all the information and learned that this protects against only a few strains of the virus. We made sure they understand that it didn't protect them from HIV and that they still needed regular PAP smears after they become sexually active.

They read everything even the studies about the side effects and decided for themselves that they wanted the vaccine anyhow. I was and am very proud of them for how seriously they took this decision regardless of how worthless I feel the vaccine is.

I didn't get the whole series of shots. Honestly, I just forgot to go back. Like with any disease/infection, being in an honest relationship with one person is really the best way to stay safe
