Ow! My Nipples!! Post-piercing Pain

Contributor: aliceinthehole aliceinthehole
So my nipples were pierced for about 9 months or so, but they've been without piercings for about 5 years now... but they're still perma semi-hard, have scars, make milk if stimulated (!) and lately they've started HURTING like a bitch.

They're SUPER sensitive and any kind of stimulation is just... ouch! Like, really painful. And I have a high pain threshold.

Any ideas on how to help with the pain? Anyone else ever had this problem, with or without piercings?

Suggestions for Nipple Stimulation?
I am thinking about purchasing something to stimulate my nipples. I've never used any toys before and would love to get your opinions and suggestions.

What type of nipple are you? (With descriptive diagram!)
I just read this article on one of my favorite sites (link) and found out that I have puffy nipples! What type are you? See illustration below and.

What are the best toys out there for nipple or breast stimulation??

Nipple-gasms....
Nipple-gasms are my favorite, but I've come to the conclusion they're quite rare. Has anyone else had one?

I have really tiny nipples and sometimes they came with splitting pains at the nips. It was either from not being able to hold a milk load..or it might have been time to feed the little tike randomly aka the extreme mommy telepathy... <<<

It almost sounds like maybe there was some sort of nerve damage from the piercing. I'm really not sure. It does not sound pleasant at ALL!

You might ask P'Gell about this. She's our resident Breast Expert.

i'm afraid i was misunderstood - my piercings are long-healed, but i'm just kind of out of nowhere getting alot of pain and sensitivity there.

Honestly you could have infected nipples, go to the doctor because if you aren't lactating and your nipples are secreting fluid and are super painful. You should go to a doctor soon.

I've been so scared of pain and that's the only thing that holds me back from getting pierced.

Mine hurt constantly when I was pregnant. I wish I could tell you how to relieve the pain, but I really have no idea.

I'm sorry you are in pain. You said the piercings were long healed. Sometimes, if the piercings weren't done properly, OR you just had nerves in an unusual place, long time pain can result. This is not common, but it happens.

My other thought is; could you be pregnant? Pregnancy can cause sore nipples as the breasts get ready for and work up to producing milk. It's usually one of the first signs of pregnancy, even before you miss a period.

Warm or cool compresses, wet is better than dry, work well for sore nipples. Also, if you are sure you aren't pregnant, 400 to 600 mgs of Ibuprofen every 4 to 6 hours can help. Don't take this if you are pregnant without your doctor or midwife knowing.

There's a nice nipple ointment called Lansinoh that you can try. DO NOT use regular lanolin. It is loaded with pesticides that are used to keep ticks, fleas and other parasites off sheep. Lansinoh is a brand that takes out all the pesticides, chemicals and even the alcohols and aldehydes in lanolin that cause allergies.

You can use Lansinoh all during pregnancy (although if you are pregnant, it will only last the first 3 months or so, coming back with less intensity intermittently during the pregnancy) and, of course, during breastfeeding. You can also use it while you are not pregnant for nipple pain, skin abrasions or irritations anywhere on your body, except the genitals.

I have only ever had nipple issues from chafing. When I have it I apply thick lotion and wear a tight sports bra to prevent any more irritation from rubbing my clothing. It sounds like you might have nerve damage from the piercings. Has this just started happening recently? After five years without piercings? If so, it might not be from the piercings.

Mine still hurt every so often after my piercings were taken out. I just switch to a sports bra or go without a bra for a little while and it stops. I used to put bandaids on them, too. Sometimes the extra pressure helps.

they're not infected. they've been making milk for years now, since a few months after the piercings were taken out and they healed. i actually did go get an ultrasound on them when it started happening to be sure nothing was wrong.

actually, piercings originated because mothers wanted a faster, more efficient way to get milk to their babies. lactating due to piercings is perfectly normal.

mmm... i have an IUD. but i have been partaking in otherwise risky behavior that could normally result in a pregnancy... the chance of pregnancy with this is said to be .06%... god i hope i'm not pregnant. if so, i would not go through with it. i'll check out the ointment for sure. thank you very much.

Get cheap tests from the dollar store and test.. I have an IUD as well, and getting pregnant w/ it in is one of my biggest fears..

yeah, i've got one at home left over from before the IUD insertion. will do.

luckily, planned parenthood in louisville does terminate pregnancies. as scary, traumatic and expensive as that would be, it would not be a hopeless situation.

bandaids! now that sounds like a good idea. at least they'd be protected from moving around or being bumped into. i dont wear bras generally.

poor nippos.

I second the Lansinoh post. It's in the baby section of walmart or the drug store. If it works for brand new baby/first time nursing, it should help you! Try that and bandaids to reduce the friction

Maybe you have clogged milk ducts? If it hurts that bad then you should see a doc!
