I wax, although I'm very careful about where/who I go to (I have a propensity to ingrown hairs plus I always worry about hygiene in salons) - I get all my pubic hair off (including around anus and even the little bit that grows along my tailbone - the name the salon gives it is a XXX wax, but it's basically a Brazilian) plus my underarms, and legs up to the hip. There's also a student salon where I study that does bikini waxing for about half the price of most other salons, but they do specific stuff and you sort of have to go with whatever the students are learning on that day. It smarts the first time you get it done (and you might feel a bit bruised after) but eventually it gets less painful - thought funnily enough it hurts more to get the hairs around my ankles removed than my pubic hair.
I've tried shaving before - I had a shaving cut maybe 10mm away from my clit, and it bled so badly and hurt so much I almost fainted, plus it got infected and took weeks to heal. I still have a scar there. Never again. (Plus I was having shave about once a week or less to stay smooth, so I was going through disposable razors like nothing else - and I have yet to find an electric shaver that I don't feel nervous about putting near my lady-bits.)
Waxing is expensive, but since I've been getting it done for a few months the hair has started to grow back more and more slowly and actually kind of patchy too.
I tried sugaring (which is less painful because you remove hair in the direction of growth - but I'm told salons are meant to do the same anyway, what direction they work in seems to depend on where they were trained) but I can never get the recipe right. I like it better though - you use the sugaring paste at room temperature, so you're not putting anything hot near anything sensitive. Plus it's just sugar, so it dissolves in a lukewarm shower and is super-easy to clean up, and it (usually) doesn't set off any allergies people might have. It also does seem to take longer for the hair to grow back (almost 6 weeks for me!) and you can do it with much shorter hairs (about 1/16 of an inch apparently). But it does take some practice to get the technique right, and I still need someone else to help with the backs of my legs and around my butt.
I just find it uncomfortable to be hairy - it gets itchy if I sweat, it gets itchy during sex, it gets itchy during my period, it gets itchy if I wear underwear, it gets itchy if I go swimming...and it's not like I need it so fine, it can go. Plus it just looks nicer to me.
(My boyfriend apparently doesn't care either way. I don't think he does anything. I wouldn't mind if he trimmed it a bit, but it doesn't matter much to me.)
