Should it be socially acceptable for young females to masturbate and/or use sex toys?

So many terrible things happen due to lack of education. I'm all for ways to minimize that.

It would be nice if everyone loosened up about masturbation, especially for girls. They experiment and explore and shouldn't be made to feel guilty or dirty for it. Not sure about the legal age for toys. My daughter had a bullet before I did, when she was fourteen or fifteen. I don't know where it came from but was sort of happy for her when I saw it.
If young women had access to toys made for that purpose they wouldn't be as likely to use something unsafe...

I bought my sister a vibrator for her sixteenth birthday and told her that I wasn't going to lecture her about sex (as long as she was being safe), but that I wanted her to have a vibrator because I think that women who know their bodies are able to make better decisions. (We live in different countries, so I don't get to see her often enough to be a real resource.)

I personally have masturbated since childhood and while there was some social shame/stigma to negotiate (I wasn't open about it), I feel so grateful that I've gotten to know my body. Orgasms are great stress relievers and under times of pressure it just feels really healthy to connect with my body and feel what I'm feeling.

Once I introduce the topic of masturbation and sex toys to my daughterfans then only offer to get her sex toys if she promised to wait about having sex until she was older at least 18. I might see it different when I have a child and if that child is a girl. That is how I am thinking right now.

Yea, I agree with a lot of the posts that say masturbation isn't really a taught thing. I think it should be explained, and then left to the teens to explore on their own. I personally read a book that explained the general premise and purpose, and then did a lot of learning on my own. I think the idea of teaching kids to use sex toys or masturbate in more detail is a bit creepy, and I certainly think the idea of letting a parent decide whether or not their child is allowed to masturbate is sick. Even as teenagers, I don't believe anyone should ever be allowed to think that someone else owns their sexuality.

I'm a believer that the catty behavior behind teenage girls is caused by the need of orgasm. Think about it. The sluts in high school were always the chillest.... or maybe that was just my school?

Interesting post, but it makes sense and I agree that maybe it could lower the rate of teenage pregnancy. I never would have thought about it but it makes sense.

I think that a lot of women don't grow up knowing how to masturbate or even what to do, which is why many women grow up to have really bad, orgasmless sex. A lot of people seriously do not know what a clitoris is or what to do with it when they find out. Women also don't advocate for themselves nearly as much. I think masturbating should be self-exploration since all people like different things, but women should be told more about it and told that it's okay, as well as given some basic info like that most women's orgasms come from the clitoris, but there is also the g-spot, and ___ are things you can do with these body parts to give yourself pleasure.

I don't think one size fits all, but I think that masturbation should be understood as normal and shame free (although a "private" activity) in younger people, but sex toys is getting a bit more advanced. Probably okay for some girls and maybe too much or not appropriate for others. Good parenting is critical in this case, and with my own daughter I was always straight and honest about any issue she asked about, including this. Now as a married adult, she really appreciates that about our relationship.

I don't see anything wrong with exploring and learning about your body and enjoying yourself. why is it that for males it's normal and for females it's considered wrong. I hate that double standard crap

masturbation, with or without sex toys, should be totally available to young ladies. The more that you feel that you OWN your sexuality, the less you'll let others manipulate you into making poor decisions/decisions you don't want to make. I think masturbation was honestly a big part in discovering my sexuality and making sex way better and more pleasurable + consensual once I was with a partner.

Absolutely! Masturbation is not only healthy for the body but a great way for girls to understand their body. I believe that most parents would rather their child be masturbating than going out and having sex, whether they would admit that or not. It is important for a girl to understand the different areas of her body and be comfortable with it when the time comes for her to engage in sexual relationships with men.

I started masturbating when I was around 3 years old. My mom mainly taught me that I shouldn't do it in public. However, I still felt very guilty about it. I think my mom would get stressed out when she caught me doing it in my room and I thought that meant it was bad.

Sexuality should not be shameful. It is a gift and should be treated as such.

While I believe that nothing is wrong with masturbation, I really don't see a reason for a YOUNG girl to use sex toys...I don't know; I didn't feel the need (or WANT) to use them when I was young...

At three? (I only ask because I have a relative with a young child that age...) I understand touching, but surly not like how we adults "touch" ourselves, right?
There's no reason to feel guilty about it, though!

I agree that young women should be allowed to enjoy themselves...but I don't like the idea of teen girls in sex shops. It would be ok if their parents bought them for them, but then again not too many teens would be comfortable asking for this!

girls under 18 should have access to toys.

Absolutely.

I think everyone of any age should be able to use whatever kind of sex toys they want, and that information about how to cleanly use these toys should be provided, along with means to actually then clean these toys.

(Not necessarily endorsing capitalism; i.e. buy the toy, then the ~official toy cleaner~, but any kind of thing that will clean your toys)

I think access to information along with the toys could be especially productive
