I think the glasses are part of "steampunk" look. I have a friend who is really into roleplaying in Second Life steampunk areas and she always dressed up her avatar with stuff like this.

Yeah, I know it is. But I just never understood the point of it. Looks silly.

This all just reminded me of an Amazing Wedding Cakes episode I watched where they made the most amazing cake ever in a "Steampunk" theme:

I can definitely see how the topic could open so many doors for writers; I LOVE the way you phrased this!
It has also been interesting to see how the EF forum feels about steampunk over here. We have a bunch of steampunk-ers on board, I hope someone lets that thread know about the book (if its not there already!).

That is awesome!

I know what you mean about not understanding some of it, there are many genres and fetishes I've become familiar with, especially working for Eden and SexIs—and many still confuse me—but it's always fascinating to learn about what turns people on and why or how they develop a particular fetish or interest.

This cake is too cool tho, and reminds me of Alice in Wonderland for some reason (the Tim Burton version, obviously, not the Disney version).

So I noticed on the Cleis site, there are two other vampire erotica books available published by them - has anyone read either of these?

They're actually both lesbian vampire erotica books - I can think of nothing more enticing.

I've read Dark Angels. I wouldn't poke it with a ten foot stick. Nothing against the author or anything, but it was totally not my thing. It consisted of vampires drinking a lot of menstrual blood as well as a lot of graphic death.

There's a review on my blog.

Eek! Well I'm glad I heard that before I ran out and got a copy. I'm usually up for just about anything but that does not sound like something I'd enjoy.

Speaking of kinks (or not), what are your favorite vampire scenarios? I have noticed a shift in my vampire interests-- when I was younger, I liked the vampire-as-villain stories, with vampire hunters conquering the undead. Now I'm more about the vampire as antihero, misunderstood and darkly erotic. I also like vamps with an element of BDSM.

I've always loved the misunderstood and darkly erotic vampire. Especially one that resists their own urges for a specific reason. Now that's erotic.

I remember an episode of L-Word when Alice was dating a vampire. That was lots of fun! She had a BDSM interest, and it was just cute that every time Alice tried to see her in the mirror, she happened to duck or drop something. Cute.

If it has as many femdom stories as you say it does, I'll need to pick it up. The world is lacking in femdom.

I love the - and I'm not talking Edward Cullen here - vampire with a good heart. But I also love the deep, decadent ones that just suck blood and fuck. My favorite have to actually be the stories where they turn a human into vampire. I don't know what it is, it just adds something to the story for me.

Oh, I miss the L-Word! And I remember that episode. Yum! Alice hanging from chains (Alice in Chains, really?) and not knowing if the girl was really a vampire. Sigh...

I like my vampires with a hint of BDSM too. I tend to be a no-blood or cutting girl in reality because of safety concerns—but knives and cutting and fangs and blood in my fantasies—yes please!

Vampires have always represented sexual seduction to me, as opposed to violence or death as perhaps they should.

I have a fairly early memory that has always stuck with me, from sneaking a peek at my dad's Playboy magazines back in grade school I think—a vampire photo shoot with pale naked women, passionately enjoying being bitten. Clearly it impressed me, years later, it's the pictorial that stuck in my head.
