Most people don't care, but there are quite a few who just want to argue with me about veganism. I avoid criticizing other peoples beliefs, but I can't help getting into a healthy argument now and then Although I've thought about veganism a lot, I still like to hear good arguments for and against it from interesting, well-articulated people.

I usually don't tell people I'm Vegan right away; I weed out the idiots before I let them in on my "secret"! But the most hurtful thing someone said to me was, basically, I'm Pretty FAT to be a non-meat eater...yeah, thanks, @$$hole! .

People always think I need more protein. The truth is that your body's awesome at recycling it and obtaining it from different sources. I also get asked if I hate meat -- no, of course I think it's tasty, but I choose not to eat it!

I've been wondering about why a lot of the people posting in this thread were so upset about getting these reactions, because I mean, it might be a little annoying, but I don't see what the big deal is. I tried to find something in my life that I could compare it to, and I think that it's somewhat similar to when I tell people that I don't like receiving oral. I always get reactions like "but everyone does" or "but it's awesome - why don't you adore it?" or "you're just not doing it right/haven't met the right person." Generally, I just feel sorry for the people asking, because they're clearly undereducated about sexual diversity. I think that it would likely be the same were I a vegetarian. I would bombard anyone making comments about my dietary choices with information about it and explain to them exactly what allowed me to eat meat, why I chose not to enjoy steak/cheese/bacon and where my protein came from. It seems to me like a boring lecture would make people think twice about asking again in the future.

I'm not vegan, but the replies to this were interesting. I don't mind what other people eat, I don't eat cornbread, and people say I'm crazy for that. There's always someone out there willing to point the "you're weird" finger.
