Will jelly react to plastic bags?

Contributor: Backseat Boohoo Backseat Boohoo
Right now I store all of my jelly toys in their original packaging, and it's getting a little cumbersome. They would take up much less room in my toybox if I could store them in something flexible, like a plastic bag, instead. But I'm worried that there may be a chemical reaction. Will plastic bags react with the jelly material and make it deform?

I store most of my toys in ziploc bags, and I've never had anything melt. One jelly toy has been in a bag for over 3 months without being taken out, it is a super stinky jelly toy too, and no deforming for me.

No wonder it's been in the bag for so long. LOL

I haven't had any problems with plastic baggie storage, either (except for CyberSkin and UR3, which can take on the texture of any wrinkles in the bag).

A long time ago (in the 70's) a friend stored her jelly toys in ziploc bags. They melted together and she was so upset! I don't remember why that happened - other people stored their toys that way and they never melted. Her large collection of jelly toys was ruined. Was it bleach? Vinegar? I don't remember the name of the culprit. I'd suggest that you store jelly toys with a light coating of non-talc powder in a breathable ziploc bag. They come with little holes in them and that might alleviate the risk of melted toys.

If she stored jelly toys TOGETHER, the jelly probably reacted to other jelly. That's why I separate them in the first place.

Talc sounds like a good idea, if it comes to that.

I did have a problem storing jelly toys together. I think there was a negative and destructive reaction from the different substances. By themselves, they should be ok except for too much heat. As for chemical odors, they are there but at least they are not being mixed. LOL.

Just to clarify, that's non-talc powder (corn starch).
I store all of my toys in separate zip-lock bags and have not had a problem with any of them. I don't have any life-like materials (UR3, Cyberskin) though except for the Fleshlight, but it is in its own plastic case so I don't need to put it in a bag.

Yeah, hasn't talc been linked to cancer or something like that?

Yes, use of talc in the genital area has been linked to an elevated risk of ovarian cancer. While this isn't conclusive proof of causality, medically and scientifically speaking, it's a good enough reason not to use it for me!

Back on topic: I store my jelly and silicone toys in zip-lock bags, and the only problem I've ever had is getting them to lie flat in the bag, since they love to stick to the sides.

It was not my toy but I saw it. It had molded in a ziplock bag. I guess the moisture had been sealed in after washing it. It was so gross and stinky. Just make sure the toy is dry and that the bag isnot completely sealed. I make little simple pouches from old t shirts or I use stray socks.

I just clean out my old toy box which I had lined in plastic bags I'd cut up. A jelly 'sleeve' for a pocket rocket type toy DID melt to the bag but I think it was the toy melting and stick rather than a combined reaction.

Depends on the bag and the toy, but yes, transference can happen. Ziplock bags and your average jelly toy shouldn't be an issue. Some sort of PVC bag (I have a strange plastic bag that came with some shoes which *smells* sweet, for example) would be a bad idea, and likewise the really touchy stuff like cyberskin isn't going to fare well. If you want to error on the safe side, just a rag/cloth/old sock/chunk of old t-shirt, as has been suggested, between the toy and the bag will ensure everything stays as is.

If you're using any piece of cloth, I think it would be pretty redundant to then put it in a bag.

Wow. I don't even put my toys in bags - I find that to be super anti-conducive to being in the mood.

So long as the toys are in their OWN plastic bags, you should be fine. Please remember, that if your bedroom gets really warm in the summer, they will melt a bit (or dent, as I call it) so it's best to keep them stored in a nice cool place.
Jelly toys usually come in a box & in a plastic bag, so the zipper bags are just another type of plastic bag.

YEP! A friend of ours LOVES to drink Crown, and they always come in those purple soft bags, and I have about 6 of those, plus some other little bags that come with stuff, like those satin bags. I'm thinking of making some bags, marketed for sex toys, and cheap too!

I've used that Cyberskin Renew powder, and it's FANTASTIC in restoring that soft, real-feel to those types of toys.

I have some silky bags for some toys, bags I designed for others, socks for some, and ziploc baggies for others. Yeah, my obsessive complusiveness is acting out again! LOL
I've not had any problems with any of my jelly toys melting in any of the containers.

All toys are fine to store in plastic ziplock bags. If you are storing cyberskin or other realistic materials, then use cornstarch or Cyber Renew powder in the bag to keep it's softness. It's not suggested to use powder on your jelly toys. It will take the bright shininess of them away.

Easiest way to put your jelly toy into the bag straight is to put your hand in the bag, grab the toy, and pull it through. Then you're not trying to move it past the plastic. Just a quick tip from the dildo factory

I found some great cosmetics bags at the fair trade store that work brilliantly for toy storage. They were a little pricey though.
