Do You "Retire" Toys?

Contributor: Rawhide Rawhide
Let's see... the bulk of what I use falls into three catagories: long lasting (silicone, leather), breakable (vibes, Silky link), and disposable (gloves, condoms, empty bottles and packets of lube).

I'd probably never throw out an old cock (even a broken Silky) or harness- too many memories and they don't take up much space. Sure, they'll get "retired" and no longer used, but I'll always keep them in the barn instead of putting them out to pasture.

But for some reason I don't feel that way about vibes. Once a vibe breaks, I'll just grumble and toss it immediately.

I just got my first toy a couple months ago, so I haven't needed to throw anything away.
But I'll probably keep the first one no matter how bad it gets.

If something electronic doesn't work for me I disassemble it. If it's something that's sterilizable and reusable I'll see if someone else would like it more.

I hold onto them except the ones that sucked. Who knows when I may have an emergency and need one. Especially things with bullets, I am continuously switching them on rings and sleeves with other ones.

I threw away every toy I used with my ex when we split up. There was no way I was going to want to use them again. So I just started over. Don't worry, they were all cheap ones.

I have like 2 dildos... >.> The one that vibrates works fine as far as I know (gotta put new batteries in it) But I don't see why I'd throw either out.

I hate clutter. If we haven't used a toy in 6 months, we test it out see what we think and if it doesn't do it for us, we trash it. We only keep the cream-of-the-crop in our toy box. We don't mess around! We take our toys, just about as seriously as we take our our coffee.

We are total toy and coffee snobs!

My first vibrator ever is still kicking, so I've kept it. I had a clitoral vibrator that I reviewed that didn't do ANYTHING for me, I think I threw it out. I think anything else I wouldn't be sentimental with. If it doesn't work, toss it!

Excellent organization, I pretty much do the same thing!

I throw the broken or the crappy material toys.

I give toys that can be sanitized to those who want them (I am STD free also)

I do a bi-monthly check up of the toy box to see what I am not using/can give away/throw away.

I'll keep most of our toys, as long as we get some good use out of them at least occasionally.

I would just throw away a vibe that doesn't work. But I have some vibes that work still, I just hate them. I might end up throwing away some really decent vibes because they don't for me

I don't have a whole lot of toy experience to go on, but I started getting more interested in toys when my first and only toy (a Pocket Rocket type) started losing power and increasing in noise. It wasn't until several months after buying a few new toys that I was able to bring myself to throw it away. Even though I hadn't used it in quite some time, I had to make sure I was in good hands with my new toys first. I'm not much of a sentimental person, but it was weird letting it go.

I get rid of them. Now I get quality toys that I can keep for a long time.

I try not to get repeats unless something is bad or broken, so I don't retire anything

I would probably keep them all but alas, there is only so much room to stash them. If they really aren't getting used or they have been worn down to a nub then they have to go. But hey... what better excuse to log on and buy new ones!!!

I keep just about all my toys other than the ones that don't work anymore. I am picky about my toys, so normally I only buy the ones I like.

I haven't had anything long enough to retire or throw something away. When I do I'll probably get rid of them. I know there are several places you can mail old toys to that will recycle them in exchange for gift cards.

I've retired toys that were made of porous materials (bought before I knew better) or that were broken, and I've given away a couple of toys that I didn't use but that friends wanted. Other than that, I've kept them all, even the ones I never use.

Since most of my toys can be sterilized, they go to friends when they start to overrun my house. Otherwise, if they can't be sterilized, it's time to experiment. hehehe

I've only ever thrown out one toy, and even then I took it apart and salvaged the insides for DIY projects.

It takes a bit for me to throw any out, but if it is damaged or hasn't been used in a long time and probably won't be used again, I'll throw it out.
