Skin Honey is a cutely packaged water-based lube. It's a little sticky, but nothing like the idea conjured by "body topping and drizzle" in the description. It does dry up very quickly, requiring lots of applications. It also gets sticky once it starts to dry out. The chocolate honey flavor is both good and bad, with sweet hints of honey and bitter tastes of artificial sweeteners. Skin Honey is also pretty expensive, coming in at $21.99 for a 1.7 ounce bottle. When I squeeze this out of the bottle, it has a very runny consistency. It's like a watery hand sanitizer. It slips and slides all over my hands. However, this thin consistency also makes it great for rubbing over large areas of skin. Skin Honey is easy to pour out of the bottle. Just a tiny squeeze gives me about a dime-sized amount. Sometimes I do squirt out a little too much, just because of how thin this stuff is. It doesn't stay in place when first poured out, but once it's rubbed around a little, it sticks on skin a bit better.
Upon applying Skin Honey, it feels very slick, not greasy or sticky. As it dries into skin, it gets sticky, like most water based lubes. The area it has been applied to will still be very smooth to the touch and easy to massage. Rough hands will glide over skin much more easily. This can be felt on skin, but it doesn't feel super heavy. Once it has completely dried on skin, there's a bit of a sticky feeling left. It was enough to drive me a little crazy and make me want to wash my hands immediately. That's probably just me, since I am like that with anything sticky.
I received the Chocolate Honey flavor. Skin Honey's flavor really packs a punch. It's sweet like honey with some sort of chocolate flavor. It's a good combination and is pretty unique. Most lubes are just flavors like strawberry or raspberry, not a blend of different flavors. Unfortunately, the chocolate flavoring is a bit off, bitter, and slightly weird tasting. It's similar to System JO's chocolate flavored water based lube.
The scent reminds me of sweetly scented body lotions. I can't really describe the smell. It has hints of berry and honey, but I guess the rest is the scent of the other ingredients. It isn't a particularly good smell, but it isn't stinky either. I can only really smell it if I put my nose up to the bottle or skin that I've applied this to. After washing, I can't smell it on skin at all.
As a water based lube, Skin Honey lasted about as long as others. Within a few minutes of application, I needed a little more. Spit doesn't work all too well to reactivate it. As a massage product, one application was enough to smooth skin out provide a decent massage. Since this stuff dries out and absorbs so quickly, a massage with it does not feel anything like one with massage oil. Oil will stay on skin much longer to be spread around. Oil does feel much heavier on skin, though.
I did not use it for penetration or with toys. I used it just for kissing and licking off of skin. However, I do think it would make an okay lube for use with toys or during penetration, so as long as it's just to get a little lubrication before the body starts producing it naturally. As a water based lube, this is compatible with any toy.
After use, I did wash what was left of this off because my skin felt sticky. Just some warm water and hand soap cleaned this off easily. No trace of flavor, scent, or stickiness was left behind.
My favorite thing about Skin Honey is probably the honey flavor. It's nice and sweet. The packaging is adorable, too. I don't care for the sticky feeling or how fast this stuff dries up. I also hate the funky fake chocolate flavor.
The bottle of Skin Honey is pretty cute. It's black with an almost see-through pink cap. The bottle is shaped to allow for an easier hold on it, especially with lube coated hands. It's pretty easy for me to grip in one hand. The cap twists off, which is also easy to do with a lube coated hand. The bottle operates as a squeeze bottle, with a tiny opening under the cap. Upon opening the product for the first time, there is no foil seal or anything under the cap. There's also no plastic seal around the cap. The cap does seal very tightly. I haven't had any leaks. The bottle is as big as a trial-sized lotion or shampoo and contains 1.7 ounces.
The front of the bottle displays Skin Honey by booty parlor in a pink and white cursive-style font. Underneath this, in smaller font, is "kissable body topping." The back lists a brief description of the product and it's uses as a body drizzle, lubricant, and massage gel. There's also Booty Parlor's web site.
Skin Honey comes packaged in a small pink and black box. The box is actually pretty cute. It's all got raised detailing to it, which can easily be felt if you run a finger over it. The front has a little black design with Skin Honey in the middle of it. It states the flavor, Chocolate Honey, on the top on a sealing sticker. The back lists uses for Skin Honey, ingredients, and the benefits of three natural ingredients. Honey helps to maintain the hydration of skin, keeping it soft. Goji berry works as an antioxidant, which provides body health. Ginseng gives energy to the mind and stimulates sensual desire. The packaging states that Skin Honey is latex safe and paraben free. It is easy to wash away with just water.
On the bottom of the box is the ingredients. These are in very tiny letters and actually difficult for me to read.
Ingredients:
Water, Glycerin, Sorbitol, Propylene Glycol, Honey Extract, Lycium Barbarum Fruit Extract, Panax Ginseng Root Extract, Sodium Saccharin, Triethanolamine, Diethanolamine, Carbomer, Potassium Sorbate, Phenoxyethanol, Flavor (Aroma). May Contain: Red 40 (Cl 16035), Yellow 5 (Cl 19140), Yellow 6 (Cl15985), Blue 1 (Cl42090)
Many of these ingredients are common in foods or body products. When I looked up Sodium Saccharin, I found it is a common artificial sweetener. It was probably used to make the honey and chocolate flavor, and can have a very bitter aftertaste to it. Triethanolamine is used in products like eye shadow and mascara. It has an ammonia-like odor to it, which may account for the odd odor to Skin Honey. Diethanolamine is used mainly in hair dyes and also has an ammonia-like odor. Carbomers maintain the viscosity of Skin Honey. Phenoxyethanol is used as an antibacterial agent and as a preservative.
The packaging looks like a box for a perfume or cologne bottle. It's pretty cute. I think the box will allow this to make a great gift, without screaming "SEX LUBE" to the receiver of the gift. The bottle itself just looks like a trial sized bottle of lotion.
We used Skin Honey just as a kissable, lickable product. Since the bottle is so small for the price, I prefer to use cheaper, unflavored lubes with toys or for penetration. We basically just rubbed small amounts of this on various areas of our bodies and licked it off each other. He says he loves the flavor. I like it, but the fake chocolate flavor is a bit funky. I have noticed that other chocolate flavored lubes have the same bitter taste to them.
For massages, I personally would not choose to use this product. Again, there's so little lube for the price. I can get a much cheaper and bigger bottle of massage oil that will provide a much slicker massage. This stuff is nice if you don't have anything else or maybe want to try out massages.
