Personal Touch Volume 1: Toying With Pleasure - dvd - review by Desdimona

I decided to try this video because I'm interested in incorporating a little bit of pornography into my life, and my impression was that this was a porn feature in which couples used sex toys. Since I am pretty new to porn (I don't have a personal collection) but I am not new to sex toys (I have a pretty large personal collection), I thought this would be a nice DVD to use to dip my toe into the porn waters.

I found that this DVD was geared to a different audience than I had been anticipating. Essentially, the DVD seemed to be geared towards mainstream porn viewers who have virtually no knowledge of or familiarity with sex toys. The film is actually a combination of an "informational" movie and a typical porn movie; it alternatives "how-to" segments with sex scenes. The how-to segments feature Jayme Waxman explaining things in a slightly slower-than-usual voice, saying things such as "butt plugs are for anal stimulation" and "there are many materials that sex toys can be made of," and explaining that people who aren't into kink are often called "vanilla." She seemed to be expecting that the viewer of this DVD has never used or explored sex toys before. This made watching it somewhat boring for me; however, I think the DVD deserves some kudos for attempting to create a film that would introduce total neophytes to the world of sex toys.

Since the information parts of this DVD were disappointing, I eagerly anticipated the sex scenes. The sex scenes do take up a larger portion of DVD minutes than the information parts do, making this film more porn than information. However, I was very disappointed with the sex scenes. Obviously, everyone has different tastes when it comes to porn, so some people might like this type. But for me, there were a number of elements that were big turn-offs:
1. The actors were all totally bereft of pubic hair.
2. In the lesbian sex scene, one of the girls was wearing furry white cowboy boots the whole time, and the other had acrylic nails. Both were also wearing copious amounts of eyeshadow.
3. I'm pretty sure one of the actresses had fake breasts.
4. The women's orgasms all seemed extremely theatrical and not authentic.

It was clear to me in all of the sex scenes that these were actors performing a job, and this took a lot of the appeal out of it for me. Additionally, there was a very heteronormative flavor to all of the scenes, especially the girl-on-girl one, that irritated me. The girl wearing the strap-on in this scene seemed to be trying to act the way a stereotypical male in a porn movie would act -- saying "suck my cock," calling her partner a "dirty whore," and referring repeatedly to her partner's "tight little pussy" -- and it came off as very inauthentic.
