Chemistry by Vivid - review by Maiden

Tristan Tarmino's "Chemistry" is a series of adult dvds that are made like a reality show. Throw a bunch or porn stars into a house for a few days, give them hand held video recorders some lube and some sex toys, and tell them they can fuck when and where and how they want! There are sex scenes filmed buy the standard cameras as well, but they are not scripted at all. The director tells them who they are going to fuck, but lets them know they can do it wherever they want, however they want, and use any of the toys they want. Other than those scenes, there are other scenes filmed by the cast themselves with a hand held recorder. In between the action are "confessional" type interviews with the cast.


I purchased the first in this series because I was intrigued by the concept, and the first one has one of my favorite porn stars in it, Dana DeArmand. I love "gonzo" style porn, where there isn't any scripted dialogue and you feel like you are in the room with them. However, this doesn't mean that there isn't a script, just that you feel like you are watching real sex instead of a movie. Chemistry goes above and beyond this concept by actually showing you through interviews and hand-cam footage that these actors are really just having fun and doing who and what they want to do. I especially like the use of toys and lube, as it adds to the "realness" factor for me. The only thing lacking is condom use. I know some don't like this, but I actually prefer it. Watching porn, even "real life" style sex, is still fantasy for me. I want to be able to fantasize that I am in the room or I'm actually one of the people that I'm watching. I HATE condoms, and for that reason I stay in a monogamous relationship. Porn stars take the risk of unprotected sex as a hazard of the job, and they get regular STD tests to make sure they are clean. The point I am trying to make here is that the lack of condom use doesn't bother me. In fact, nothing would ruin my fantasy faster than to watch sex WITH condoms, but that is just me.


As for the scenes themselves, the sex is hot as are the actors. They fuck all over the house, in the back yard, by the pool, in the hot tub. They use toys and lube, and it really feels like they are having "real" sex. The chemistry seems real to me, and you get the feeling they are really enjoying themselves. The interviews help set you up for the "reality" by letting you get to know the actors, who really LOVES to eat pussy, or who really gets turned on by the thought of fucking a man in the ass, etc. so when you actually see them do it, you know they are enjoying it. I never got bored watching this, and in fact watched it all the way through without stopping. I loved the interviews with the cast, because you don't normally get to see the real personalities of porn stars. I especially loved seeing Dana DeArmand in all her quirky, silly, cuteness. Besides her, Mr. Marcus is the only other actor I recognize. However, I quickly became a fan of Mika Tan. She is sweet and gorgeous. She also isn't afraid to strap one on and fuck a man. It actually turns her on, and you can see her excitement when she talks about it during an interview. The other actors are Kurt Lockwood, Jack Lawrence, Taryn Thomas, and Marie Luv. I was attracted to all of them physically, and even more so after learning a little bit about them.

The other thing I really liked about this movie was the toys. There is literally a table FULL of toys that they get to choose from, including some Njoy butt plugs and the Layaspot. I enjoyed seeing them used in a movie. It's kind of like watching a movie that was filmed in a place you have been. You get excited to see familiar buildings and places, and you can say, "I've been there!" While I didn't actually own any of the toys at the time, I was proud of myself for recognizing them. Not just that, but knowing in my mind how much it sells for on EF, what kind of ratings it has, how many "vrooms" it has, etc. I know, I'm a dork, but it just added another level of "realness" to me. I have seen more of Tristan Taormino's movies since then, and they almost always use toys that I am familiar with, but this was the first one I had watched where I recognized a toy being used.

I really enjoyed this movie, as did my man. We watched it together, talked about it as we were watching it, and had some really great sex a few times during the movie. It was a great way to spend the evening and I would recommend this to anyone who is bored of all the typical porn out there.

I still love this movie. I watch it over and over. I own the second in the series as well, but with this one including Dana DeArmand, I watch this one more.
