Jello Blobs!

Have an occasion where Jello or other gelatin like penises are extremely appropriate? Well this isn't going to be the tray to get you what you're looking for unfortunately. If you're needing to form something solid, you'll be ok with this, but for things like Jello in the fridge, it's not going to work very well.

extremely useful review
Novelty items are always fun to review, especially when I get to make my friends sample various penis shaped things. My intention was to make Jello penises to share with my friends. Unfortunately, it didn't go very well for me.

The tray itself came in a simple plastic bag with a cardboard top. The top didn't have much information on it. I haven't found anything yet that really tells me what it's made of, and I don't really feel qualified enough to make a conclusive guess. It's flexible like some silicone baking trays I've seen, and holds scents like silicone sometimes can, and has the drag that silicone does, but again, I'm just guessing. Either way, I'd hand wash with warm soapy water and try the dishwasher at your own risk. I did try a flame test, and it did catch on fire and melt, so I'm leaning more towards plastic.

The tray itself is relatively small, and easy to hold with just one hand. It's 8 1/2" long by 4 1/4" wide and 3/4" tall, and houses a total of 4 penises. Each penis is fairly realistic with a definitive head and some extra ribbing. They each come in at about 3" long, 2" wide across the balls, and 1" wide across the head. While very flexible, it's also very solid and completely opaque.

Here's where we talk about how it worked. Well, nothing before I tried indicated that I should do anything other than make regular Jello (even though this is designed for Jello shots), so that's what I did. There are a few pitfalls I discovered along the way. The first is that in order to have more than 4 penises to a batch of Jello, one must make sure to have multiple trays. This isn't the end of the world, and I've seen them going for $5 or less elsewhere, so that's not a horrible price. I did discover that while there's no "lip" to keep fluids in the molds, that they did an excellent job of not sloshing around, which was nice. And then there was the removal. This is the biggest pitfall for this that I've come across. There may be something to keeping the Jello in the freezer first, but out of the fridge, I had a very difficult time getting the Jello out of the mold. Shook it, squeezed it, tried to pop the molds out, nothing worked. I had a few pieces that kept some of the mold, but for the most part I just had a blob of tasty flaccid penises. And by flaccid, I mean unrecognizable.

<--- (not penises)

While making regular ol' Jello was a big ol' failboat here, I don't think all is lost. It should work very well for molding solid things like ice or chocolate.
Experience
I'm always excited for new novelty items, but this one made me a little sad. It wasn't until I was researching the tray to find an approximate price to expect that I saw anything about a freezer, but I didn't think that freezing Jello made all that much of a difference, especially when you're making shots that won't freeze anyway. I really like the quality of how the tray is made, but I have a sneaking suspicion that I won't be using it to make Jello anymore.

If I were basing a rating off just the quality of the item in my hands, I'd give this 5 stars. The fact that it pretty much fails at what it was intended to do takes almost all of those away, but it gets some redeeming points for the fact that it can still be used with other things. So I settled on 3 stars because it's well made, but finicky.

I agree, this definitely could work for ice... which is probably what I would use it for anyway. The comments were equally as helpful here too! LOL
