Second time is the charm?

I would love to try this again now that I know some of the tricks. I'm a little embarrassed I didn't do a better job since I have experience doing this but it was fun and I think I might order another kit. I recommend using the kit but strongly caution you to read the directions carefully before beginning and set out all your tools in advance.

Pros:
Great detail, easy directions, comes with a vibrator.
Cons:
Can be tricky, mold material sets up quickly, the vibrator it comes with bites.

extremely useful review
I've been hoping to review this project for a while and I was really excited to finally get it, but I was surprised to find a lot of the same problems as other people.

I'm used to making plaster molds and I've also made a few alginate molds, which is what the Clone-a-Willy kit uses. I love using alginate because it's edible and flexible so you don't have to worry about getting stuck in it or allowing for undercuts. With my experience I was anticipating on getting a really good cast from the mold but I was a little disappointed with what I got.

When cutting the tube to fit the penis, you want to make sure you cut the open end (and not cut off the closed end that you'll need to hold in the materials) but mostly be sure to cut the tube as short as possible. The less extra space in the tube, the more mold material you will have to work with and I can see how it may be easy to run out of material depending on penis size. So in an effort to conserve materials try to cut the tube as short as possible.

The mixing of the water with alginate material is easy and the directions explain the steps well. When you pour the mold material into the tube, insert the penis downward into the tube. We accidentally put the tube down over the penis which led to us losing a lot of mold material and having air bubbles in the final result.

Also, when the wet, cold material hits your penis, it's hard to stay fully erect. So really try to use a cock ring or other erection aid. We didn't and as a result his cast isn't a fully erect penis, just a medium erection. Which is okay for me because I like small dildos but if you want a full cast try to use an aid to stay erect.

Try to stay in the mold as long as possible to achieve better mold results and try not to fidget too much. Moving around can cause air bubbles and gaps in the material.

We let the mold rest about 1 hour after casting, but I really don't think it's necessary. The box said to wait 2-4 hrs to pour in the rubber casting material but I've never waited to pour into an alginate mold before and it really should affect your results. But if you've got the time, you might as well, it couldn't hurt.

The part that was really tricky for me was putting in the vibrator. The vibrator is kind of big and it kept sinking into the casting material. I did the cardboard option like they said but it tends to shift left or right as well and mine ended up not center, but tilted to the edge of the mold. Also, it sank in as well overnight and the tip of the vibrator pushed through the tip of the dildo, so I have a little white spot of plastic coming out the top. I'm very unhappy about this because I kept fixing it and checking on it because I was worried that might happen. I would recommend using duct tape to affix it into place so you don't have the same problems.

Also, I would recommend taking a look at the site they list in the directions where you can shop for other vibrators. I don't like the long, basic operation one they put in with the package. If I'd known it would poke through the mold I would have invested in another, perhaps better quality one from the website listed.
Experience
I enjoyed my final result in the quality and detail of it. But I made a few simple mistakes which led to it having some flaws. We fidgeted with the mold for the first minute so I got an air bubble in the top of it, which showed up as a bump on the head of the penis. I also had issues inserting the vibrator in the casting material and we didn't use an erection aid which resulted in a smaller casting.
Follow-up commentary
I still like it! But... while it was fun making the kit and I love the results visually, I don't actually like to use the final product. I find the material it's made of to be too rigid. I like a flexible jelly-like silicone more. Also, as I mentioned before, the vibrator it comes with isn't that great and I just find other products to be more suitable. It's mostly just a novelty.

Lots of great pointers! Out of curiosity--is alginate the same stuff they use at the orthodontist's to make molds of your mouth? Because it tastes pretty weird

The orthodontist probably uses alginate, it comes in a couple different colors so it might look different but there aren't a lot of edible mold materials out there.

I recently ordered this kit so that I can finally have a mold of what I think is the perfect cock -- my husband's! Great review. I'll definitely keep your review in mind so that we get things right the first time around.

Nice review. I'd love to try this. I be a bit nervous to stuff it up the first time but I guess that's a risk you have to take.

  • Clone-a-willy construction!
    • I read a review where a man made a few of these single-handedly (hats off!). Instead of just placing the plastic tube over his penis, he cut off the closed end of the tube, sat down leaning back and poured in the mold, making sure it covered his entire length.

This actually seems to make more sense, provided you protect whatever it is you're sitting on, as there might be less fumbling about with timing and overflow of contents.

Has anyone tried it this way with more success? Any opinions? I read a review where a man made a few of these single-handedly (hats off!). We had one, and used the tube. My hubby is rather "gifted" in his length as well as girth, so in some parts of the dildo, the material was very thin near the bullet. I would suggest that if you do do one, don't put the bullet in.
    • Hmmm, this is interesting. My boyfriend and I want to get this and the only thing we're worried about is that it won't work properly and we'll have to buy another one. This seems like a good technique. We'll try it out and I'll let you know :)
