The Sex Game or How Many Ways to Say 'Hug My...'

The Sex Game is mostly suited for beginners; however, it demands a fair amount of creativity in order to get the most out of it. There are no time limits in The Sex Game; it ends whenever you want it to end, so if something is particularly enjoyable you can continue for as long as you both please thus improving your foreplay and sexual happiness.

The Sex Game comes in pink cardboard packaging, which measures (W x H x D) 7.5 x 8.5 x 3.5 cm. The box is not discreet at all and clearly has 'sex' written in large font along with a warning 'for mature audiences only.'

The Sex Game

The contents of this kit include an instruction manual, game spinner and 24 playing cards.

Contents

This doesn't take up much space at all so there is also a cardboard insert which measures 2 cm. This cardboard insert is hollow so it could be used to store sachets of lubricant, condoms or other little supplies which might be useful to enhance game play.

The instruction manual measures 7 x 7.5 cm. The instructions in the booklet are short and easy to understand. The pages which describe how to play the game have a hot pink leopard border and the probing thoughts pages have a light pink leopard design, which makes it easy to quickly flip to the right section of the booklet. This leopard print theme runs throughout the entire design of the game.

The game spinner also measures 7 x 7.5 cm. It's made from thick card, which has been folded and glued together for added durability. The spinner itself is made from black plastic and features a cute heart in the place of an arrowhead and a kiss symbol (the letter X) for the tail. The arrow spins very well with little friction so you can get a decent spin on it. There are 4 outcomes on the game spinner which are all self-explanatory; kiss partner and spin again, pick a Foreplay card, pick an X-Rated card and probing thoughts.

There are also numbers from 1 to 24 circling the spinner, which offer two different purposes, the first of which is deciding which player begins the game. Both partners take their turns spinning the arrow and whoever lands on the higher number gets to go first. After the game has started if someone lands on 'probing thoughts' that player spins the arrow again in order to reveal their probing thought number. There are 24 probing thoughts in total, each one corresponding with the 24 numbers on the game spinner. These are outlined in the booklet and include activities such as acknowledging a favourite feature of your partner and kissing it, having your partner eat something in an erotic way or singing a verse from your favourite love song.

The playing cards measure 7.5 x 7 cm. The cards are split into two categories, Foreplay and X-Rated, and are colour-coded for ease of use in pink and red, respectively.

The Foreplay cards read: tease my, cuddle my, massage my, nuzzle my, embrace my, snuggle my, touch my, caress my, pet my, nibble my, tickle my and partner's choice.

The X-Rated cards read: pinch my, fondle my, grab my, stimulate my, bite my, taste my, stroke my, surprise my, squeeze my, lick my, rub my and partner's choice.

These supposedly X-rated cards are very tame (and just what the heck are you suppose to do for 'surprise my...'?). When I first received The Sex Game I read out all of cards to my boyfriend and when I was finished he asked me to read out the X-Rated ones. He didn't realize I already had!

Another issue I had with the selection of cards is that several of them basically say the same thing. Cuddle, embrace, snuggle... these are all synonyms for hug.

I find that the phrasing of the cards is a little confusing. Instead of reading aloud what's on the card and then performing that action on your partner I would suggest reversing it so that your partner performs that act on you. For example, if you picked up 'lick my...' and said 'nipples' then it would make more sense if your partner took what you said as an instruction and proceeded to lick your nipples, rather than for you to lick his or her nipples.

My partner and I struggle with coming up with different ways to fill in the blank with such vague prompts. This may work for some couples as they can set the tone of the game themselves and tailor it to their own personalized tastes but I feel love dice would be more suitable for us as they provide an action as well as a body part to perform that action on.
Follow-up commentary
I haven't played this once since writing my review. If you get The Sex Game, I would suggest scrapping the playing cards and creating your own ones instead.
