A Dull Ride For Experienced Cowboys

The Tantus Holt just isn't a very exciting dildo, mainly because it doesn't serve well as a dildo or a plug. It's too small for even the somewhat experienced user, yet beginners might find the head a problem. It does work well as a standard warm-up toy, but beyond that it doesn't satisfy. There are definitely better choices for warm-up toys out there. Although I don't use this toy very often, it's still a great quality toy that can provide some pleasure.

Use

As part of Tantus' "Cowboy" line of toys, the Holt is a relatively small dildo meant for anal stimulation with its large, flat base. Although marketed as a plug, this toy really doesn't function very well as one since its shaft is too long. I've tried to insert it all the way to the tapered part of the neck, but it simply will not stay in place. I've found it much better when used as a dildo, even though it provides no P-spot stimulation. Also, due to its rather minimal size, the Holt will not necessarily satisfy experienced anal users. It's also somewhat of an awkward toy for warming up. This is mainly because the head is so large compared to the rest of the body. Pulling the head out of a hole that isn't quite dilated may feel uncomfortable.

Material / Texture

Tantus is known for their awesome platinum silicone toys, and the Holt is made entirely of this great nonporous, hypoallergenic material. It terms of flexibility, Holt is a rather firm dildo with a smooth, matte surface. It's quite advantageous that the silicone is firm since Holt is so small, making it easier to penetrate and warm-up with. This is definitely a great beginner dildo.

Design / Shape / Size

The design of this toy is interesting. It begins with a large, bulbous head that measures almost 1.25 inches in diameter. It then continues with a relatively thin shaft that measures at around 1.1 inches, comparable to the Silk medium. The exaggerated head might not be best for first-timers, but that all depends on one's ability to relax and take it slowly. As I mentioned before, Holt will not perform best as a plug. However, it did not perform very well as a dildo either, as I had difficulty thrusting it. This mainly has to do with the fact that the shaft isn't long enough before it reaches the large head. It wasn't by any means uncomfortable. I did enjoy the feeling of the head pulling out.

Since the head has a slight pointed shape—meaning that it's not too rounded—it was rather easy to insert for someone like me who's used to accommodating larger dildos. However, for beginners this should be fine, too, especially with a good water-based lube. Unfortunately, the small size left me rather unsatisfied, and I found that I preferred other comparable toys over the Holt for warming up. Holt just doesn't posses an exciting design or shape in practice, even though the images online might indicate otherwise. I do however enjoy Holt's semi-realistic design, and I imagine that many beginners and first-timers might appreciate that as well.

Performance

The large, flat base is really great for holding on to. Because of the short length, I didn't find this toy very exciting. It doesn't function as a plug like it's supposed to. It may serve well as a warm-up toy, but beyond that it's pretty average. Even as a warm-up toy, it's not my favorite due to the large head. It's still pretty good for an initial poke if you don't want to use a finger and can take the head.

Care and Maintenance

Like any silicone toy, caring for the Holt is simple. Washing it with hot water and soap should be sufficient, but if you feel the need you can boil it as well. Since this is a pretty small toy, it's easy to store, even in a stuffed container. The matte surface may attract less lint and dust than glossy toys, but because it's black, debris is incredibly easy to spot. I suggest rinsing it real quickly before using it.

As with all other silicone toys, use only water-based lubes. Silicone lubes will damage the material, so avoid those at all costs. Using a slick, long-lasting lube such as Maximus, Sliquid Booty Gel, Slippery Stuff Gel, or ID Glide would be a great idea.

Personal comments

As I mentioned before, I found this toy to be pretty unexciting in terms of stimulation. It can't be used as a plug, so that's no good. Using it as a dildo feels pretty average for experienced users, and I found myself favoring the Acute over the Holt. It's not the best toy for warming up because the head is just too big. Unless you're a total beginner, I suggest users research other toys instead. As I mentioned before, Tantus' Acute is a much more satisfying alternative.

However, after thinking about it and looking back at all of the negative aspects, I decided to change it to three stars. It is advertised as a plug, yet it does look like it could work like a dildo. Unfortunately, it doesn't work well as either. Clandestine, this is a pretty average toy. It's just way too small to provide any real pleasure. It is made out of a great material, and I recommend you check out Tantus' various other dildos. They offer a really great line of silicone toys.
