The Mood naughty small plug is a great beginners' toy. However, intermediate users probably might want to steer clear of this toy because of its odor retention property alone.

Use

This is a small anal plug. There is really only one use for this toy, and that is to insert it into the anus for sexual pleasure. It has a comfortable flared base and is easy to wear for long periods of time. However, its small size makes it a little less noticeable after an hour or so of use. If you want a plug that feels slightly more pronounced, you should go with the medium or the large size.

Material / Texture

This toy is made of a velvety silicone by Doc Johnson. Although the toy's inner body is made of silicone, I discovered that the velvety coating is in fact not silicone. I performed a flame test on the toy, and the velvety outer layer caught fire, turned white, and became flaky and sticky at the same time (don't ask me how that's possible, but it did happen). The coating retains smells and it still smells a bit like ass after it was boiled in hot water. This finding led me to believe that the velvety coating is indeed porous, which I don't want from my anal toys.

Design / Shape / Size

The shape is very comfortable, and the flared base is ergonomic. The size is comfortable for me, but would probably be small for the average-size, or for advanced users. However (Ahoy beginners!), it has the PERFECT size and shape for an introduction toy into anal play! I loved mine - before I decided to flame-test the silicone - that definitely changed my opinion of the toy.

Performance

The best thing about this toy is the shape and the comfort it provides. But since it's SO comfortable, it goes almost unnoticeable after a while, which sort of defeats the purpose of an anal plug to me. However, if you're looking for a plug that stretches you out only a little to work yourself open, then this is a good precursor to a larger plug or toy - especially if you don't like sticking your fingers in your ass like I do. This plug sort of functions like the way my fingers do, so I don't quite find it especially amazing.

Care and Maintenance

Because it's made of silicone, it's sanitizable. It can be washed with soap and water, boiled, or bleached. Technically, silicone is dishwasher-safe, but because of the questionable coating, I would be hesitant to put it in the dishwasher (even on the top rack). This thing retained the smell of ass even after boiling, which is not a very pleasant scent for sex toys to have (in my opinion).

Packaging

The packaging of this toy is basically one big advertisement for Doc Johnson. It's not discreet at all and shows the plug right through an opening in the box (the toy is covered by clear plastic). The box shows the options of all Doc Johnson's "Mood" line toys and their features. I found all the extra information to be a bit of overkill because this toy is fairly straightforward and self-explanatory. Doc Johnson REALLY wants you to see how amazing they are for having many silicone options...sigh.

Hmm...makes me want to flame test mine. Mine has no velvety coating or feeling to the surface. It also hasn't retained any odors. Thanks for the review!

Thanks for the review. I wanted to point out that silicone does retain odors, because it is porous. The pores, however, are just so small that pathogenic organisms cannot grow in them, but smells can and dyes can, too. So putting your nice silicone toy next to and touching another toy, the dye from one or even the container, can seep into the surface of the silicone and stain it. The odor retention is not permanent, but it is always recommended that one clean anal toys immediately after use to prevent smells being retained. Have you tried soaking it in a mix of soapy water and 5-10% bleach solution? You could also try a solution of baking soda and water (you could boil it in this solution, too), or leaving it in the sun for a day or two?

As for the flame test, did you know that a powdery residue on the flamed spot is normal for some silicone and even a sticky feeling? The ash should simply brush off and not leave it harmed, but the tackiness will remain. Your results are not indicative that other materials than silicone were used in this piece. They show it is 100% silicone! I will direct you to this page by Dangerous Lily so you can learn some more about the misconceptions in flame testing. And here is a quote from that page that will be helpful, (note, Metis is the owner and creator of Tantus):
" In my interview with Metis, she told me that we could expect pale gray ash. The ash was the marker of the silicone, but that it would brush off with no damage. We thought this of the Jimmyjane Hello Touch. It burned, it produced the tell-tale dry ash of silicone oils, but it also showed material loss and stickiness. This confused us. It got sent off to a lab test, and it was proven to in fact be 100% silicone." The article has much more info, but I hope this helps reassure you that your toy is indeed be pure silicone.
