Colt Throbber? Don't Bother.

The Colt Throbber by Cal Exotics is an okay toy but not one I'd recommend. It has fabulous features like being waterproof and multi-speed but with that you have the loud noise and buzzy vibrations. It's an excellent price but there are much better toys out there.

extremely useful review
The Colt Throbber by Cal Exotics is available in the colours red or black. I received the red coloured toy to review. The packaging that Colt Throbber arrived in is very simple. It arrived in a plastic clamshell packaging. The toy can be seen through both front and back of the packaging.

The only text is at the very top of the package. The front states the product name, company name, and a few features of the toy. The back of the packaging states which type of batteries it uses, material of toy, company contact information and website. The packaging can be used for storage or recycled.

Colt Throbber is made of ABS (plastic) and has a coating on it, which makes it feel velvety. The toy is firm. There is no flexibility at all to the Throbber. The toy is straight with no curve to it. I didn’t find the vibrator to have any drag when I had ran it across my skin. The plastic is compatible with both water-based and silicone-based lubricants. There is no taste or scent to the vibrator.

The top of Throbber is smooth and tapers to a point. The top 3 inches of the toy is smooth with no texture. The non-textured area has a circumference of 4 inches. Beneath this area, the vibrator has pronounced ribs. The ribbed area is 4 3/8 inches in length. The texture gives the area a bit more circumference. The textured area has a circumference of 4 ¼ inches. The total length o the toy is 8 ¾ inches with an insertable length of 7 3/8 inches. The insertable length can be longer if you go past the ridged area but you’ll than be inserting the battery compartment.

I’m not sure why the vibrator is listed as an anal vibrator because the toy doesn’t have any flared base to make it safe to use anally. The base is just less than 4 ½ inches in circumference making the difference in circumference between the textured area and base only ¼ inches. I was always under the impression that anal toys need a flared base.

After asking about this in the forums, I was told that a toy like this can be used anally but the user should keep a firm grip on the toy since it’s not hands free. The toy can be used for solo or partner play. It can also be used for stimulation of external areas such as the nipples, testicles, clitoris, etc. Lastly, it can be used for vaginal penetration.

Throbber requires 2x C batteries, which are not included. The bottom of the vibrator twists off to access the battery compartment. It’s very easy to open and close. When you first open the compartment you’ll find a piece of paper inside that has a picture diagram of how to insert the batteries. There is a thick, clear O-ring around the compartment to ensure that no water leaks into it since the toy is waterproof. Just be sure to twist the cap tightly before bringing it into the shower or bath with you.

There is a dial base at the very bottom of the vibrator. The very bottom of the vibe is what you’d twist to increase/decrease the speed of the vibrations. The dial is also what you’d use to turn the toy off/on. It’s easy to use even with lubricated hands because the dial has little ridges on it. If you twist the dial only slightly, you’re met with a low vibration that is probably a 1 ½ or 2 vroom level out of 5. At the highest speed, the vibration level is a 4 out of 5. The vibrations are more buzzy than rumbly.

The vibrations can be felt through out the entire toy but are most prominent in the top 3 inches of the toy, which is the area with no texture. The vibrations are rather loud on the highest speed. On the highest speed, the toy can be heard through blankets and possibly through closed doors. If noise discretion is something that is important to you, you probably won’t be comfortable with this toy. Below is a size comparison photo with the toy beside a 355mL can of pop.

Cleaning the toy is super easy because it is waterproof. Just pay extra attention to the ridges when cleaning it. It can be cleaned with soap and water, toy spray, or toy wipes. You can also sterilize the plastic material with a bleach/water solution or with rubbing alcohol. If you’re using the toy anally and than vaginally, be sure to sterilize the toy before changing orifices or cover the toy with a condom.
Experience
...continued

I didn’t use the toy in the water but I fully submerged it during cleaning. The toy works perfectly in water. It’s a nice toy that packs quite a bit of power but I didn’t find anything to be spectacular about it. I used the toy internally (vaginally) for a bit but I didn’t find the pointy tip to be satisfying at all.

Then I used the toy externally and found the vibrations to be “okay” but didn’t rock my world. It’s a strong toy but as I mentioned, they are more buzzy than rumbly. I was able to satisfy myself eventually with this toy externally but it took a lot longer than usual. The buzzy vibrations tend to numb my external areas after awhile compared to using the rumbly toys. My partner and I aren’t into anal play at the moment but when/if we do decide to go there, we’ll want to use something with a flared base just to be extra safe.

Overall, it’s an okay toy. I’ve deducted two stars from the rating because of the noise level, the type of batteries it takes, and the fact that the vibrations are more buzzy than rumbly. I’m sure the toy will work nicely for some people but for me, it didn’t do much.

Yeah, I wouldn't have put this under 'Anal Vibrators' either. Not really safe for that.
