Does the job!
The bottom line for us is that this toy does what it is supposed to do. We think it is reasonably priced for what you get and the re-usability has made it a good value for us. This toy was therefore a good balance of cost and function and we would recommend it without reservation.Published: July 7, 2011
Pros:
Simple to use
Ribbed attachment is comfortable
Ribbed attachment is comfortable
Cons:
Firm large bulb could be a problem for people with small or weak hands
This is an occasional use only toy for us, but it gets the job done when we need it. There are several parts to this enema syringe that could use explaining.
First there is the bulb itself, which is made of a black rubber. It feels very durable and has the typical rubber smell. If you are a rubberist, you will love it. For others - well, it has "that" smell but considering this equipment is for cleaning out your nether regions, who really cares if it has a rubber smell, right?
Next is a hard plastic nozzle that fits snugly into the bulb. This nozzle is fairly narrow and quite frankly is not particularly smooth or rounded on the end. Anal novices will probably think this nozzle is the one to use because of its small size, but we would caution against this as this narrow nozzle would be quite easy to scratch your anus with if you don't take it real slow with lots of lube and get good and relaxed. Too much "pucker" and you could end up with a scratch. No fun there, so be careful if you are new to anal play and are nervous about using this toy.
There is also a 6" ribbed nozzle attachment that fits over the small nozzle. It attaches only by way of friction (does not screw on or lock in) and we found that to prevent leakage between the small nozzle and this attachment, you have to twist this attachment on with a bit of force. Not a big deal, but it does make getting it back off a little bit of a pain. We've found that if you apply a tiny bit of water based lube to the small nozzle before putting the attachment on, it helps it seal and also eases removal for cleaning and storage.
The ribbed attachment has a thin rubber shield at the bottom that prevents any leakage from your anus from getting back into the joint between the attachment and the small nozzle. It also serves as a smooth base to stop against if you insert the attachment all the way into your rectum. It is not removable and is no problem to clean. I'm mentioning it because it wasn't readily apparent to us what it was for until we used the syringe the first time.
At the end of the attachment is a rounded removable tip. This tip completely covers the end of the attachment, but is designed to allow water to escape at the seam between the cover and attachment. It is very smooth with no sharp edges. It screws on and off without much effort, but stays on securely until you are ready to remove it for cleaning. We've never had any concern that it would come off during use. You have to deliberately twist it to get it off.
Okay, now for the practical aspects - using it. This review isn't an enema/douche tutorial, so don't assume I've included all the steps of getting cleaned out. Feel free to ask questions about enemas, though, as we do know a bit about it. We use the turkey baster process for filling the bulb with warm tap water.
Next we apply lots of water based lube to the ribbed attachment and to the recipient's anus and then gently press it in. Once in, you slowly and firmly squeeze the bulb until it is nearly empty and then with the bulb still squeezed, you pull the toy out. With bulb syringes like this one, you will inevitably inject a little air with the water. Don't worry, a little air is no big deal.
After use, clean up is mostly easy. We completely disassemble it, cleaning each part in hot water with anti-bacterial soap. Toy safe cleaners are also an option, but I wouldn't recommend boiling or bleach/water solutions. The plastic on the toy may not hold up to high temperatures and I'm not sure the black rubber bulb would tolerate bleach very well. Also, I feel like we also need to mention toy sharing here. By writ of strict safe sex procedures, you should never share this toy with anyone else. It might be possible to completely sanitize the plastic parts, but the black rubber bulb would be nearly impossible to completely sanitize. You can't see or get to the interior of the bulb and you can't really dry it out, either. Bacteria or other nasties could set up shop in there and you wouldn't know it.

Experience
Mrs. J finds the ribbed attachment comfortable, but she's no anal novice. Mr. J is a bit of a novice but still finds it comfortable and easy to use. We use this syringe as a couple and getting a quick enema is quite easy when your partner is giving it to you. Using it solo is not quite as easy, especially if you have small or weak hands. The bulb is not small and the rubber is thick - it does require a good squeeze to empty it.
There are lots of possibilities for this toy that we haven't explored. For us, it is simply an enema syringe for getting clean before anal play. We typically only use it when we don't feel clean, or on the rare occasion when one of us is constipated. Other possibilities that you or your partner might consider is using this toy (particularly with the ribbed attachment) as an anal dildo combined with the enema, or using the act of getting an enema as an erotic session either vanilla or as part of a bdsm scene.

Follow-up commentary
2 months after original review
This product still works well after many uses. There is no sign of wear on any of the parts, it basically looks like it is still new.

What is a good started toy?
-
Before using toys anally, you might want to practice with a finger, just to get yourself used to the sensation.
As for toys, it's best to start small. Something like this plug or a small dildo would work well (Eden has plenty to choose from, but these are my personal recommendations). The first anal toy I used was Flexi Felix, and while it's a wonderful toy for beginners, as the beads start very small and get larger gradually, the popping sensation that comes with removing them can be a little shocking if you aren't used to it (I loved it, hehehe!).
Go slow, use lots of lube, and if you feel pain, STOP and slow down or try again later. Anal tissues are delicate and can tear easily, so you have to be careful. You might want to try a lube shooter to help get lube up inside you more efficiently. -
Quote: What is a good started toy?I guess I can give some advice about first-time products in this specific area. I'm a big fan for life-like materials and have been using them from the start, I have to say that with enough care and hygiene there is no need for the "bacterial" paranoia you might encounter here.
So that's the list of products I'd personally recommend:
This was the first product we have bought together with my Ex-Wife, in my opinion the best start but you grow out quickly:
Blush UR3 anal starter – probe
The silicone alternative is:
Sedeux Please
To grow up I'd suggest:
Pure Skin Player jr
The silicone alternative is:
VIP Super Soft
For Butt Plugs:
The best training of all times (after you grow out of the beginners toys):
Triple Ripple
Best Butt Plug (I guess many will agree):
Ryder
And finally my personal favorite among plugs:
Gapers Organic
Generally speaking that's my product advice. For lubes you have to look for yourself what suits you more. Just don't use silicone lube on silicone toys, it really kills them. The rest as usual, hygiene, foreplay, foreplay, lube -> and plenty of fun ;)

Is this messy?

I am interested in buying this but I have never done an anal douche. How messy is it? Do you end up with excess water coming out?

Quote: I am interested in buying this but I have never done an anal douche. How messy is it? Do you end up with excess water coming out?Water in = water out, in my experiences. I don't have this product in particular, but I'm a supporter of anal douching. Pretty much eliminates any surprises and boosts one's confidence. As far as messy, you should be good as long as you use over a toilet. Just make sure that you leave a few minutes for all the water to work its way out.

Quote: I am interested in buying this but I have never done an anal douche. How messy is it? Do you end up with excess water coming out?In the review I touched on that issue at the end:
In total I’ve used the product 5 separate times, 4 with the thin nozzle and 1 with the ribbed nozzle; every time the thin nozzle was used there was no mess, the one time the ribbed nozzle was used water ended up ‘leaking’ everywhere. That was enough for me to decide I didn’t like it. I haven’t tried the ribbed nozzle again and I don’t really intend to, not only was it messy, but contrary to what the box said, it wasn’t very ‘pleasurable’ either.
If you're using the thin nozzle it shouldn't be too much of an issue, but the ribbed one I'd suggest using in the tub just in case.
