Fun For Beginners

I'd recommend the small Tantus Ripple to someone who had zero experience with anal penetration, but I don't think I would recommend it to anyone else. It's too small and most folks will outgrow it very quickly. It's still a high-quality product, though, as with all Tantus toys, so if you want a beginners' anal probe, this is a good choice.

Use

The small Tantus ripple is a silicone anal probe with a wide, round base and four bloops that get smaller as the shaft continues - they are, respectively, 1/4", 1/2", 3/4", and 1". This makes the small Ripple a good choice for someone with little to no experience in anal penetration, though anyone who's ever worn a butt plug of any size may find that this Ripple is too small for their satisfaction.

The Ripple is not meant to be worn for extended periods like a plug. Its base is round, rather than being designed to fit between buttcheeks, so it's best used as a thrusting/probing toy.

It has a round, flared base, so theoretically you could use it in a harness to peg a beginner.

Material / Texture

Like all Tantus toys, the Ripple is made of 100% body-safe silicone. It's easy to clean with soap and water or antibacterial toy spray, and can also be boiled, bleached, or run through the dishwasher to sanitize.

This silicone formulation is somewhat soft and pliable, allowing for plenty of comfort during use. The floppiness of the two smallest beads can make it difficult to insert the Ripple at first, especially if your fingers are slippery with lube, but they'll slide in with a little finagling.

The ripples are significant, but they're small enough that just about anyone should be able to handle them.

This kind of silicone will retain a little bit of "ass smell." If that's something that bothers you, a regular washing-and-boiling routine after each use should be enough to eradicate the scent.

Design / Shape / Size

Graduated beads are fantastic for anal toys because you need to gradually relax your anus to be able to handle a larger toy. The Ripple has a good design for helping you to work up to another anal toy that's 1" in diameter, if that's your goal.

As I mentioned earlier, the squishiness of the silicone makes it so that the toy is sometimes tricky to insert, since it wants to flop all over the place rather than going straight in like a firmer toy would. This isn't really a problem, it's just mildly annoying.

I never have a problem taking the Ripple. It's just too skinny to ever be an issue. The only size-related problem I have with it is that it sometimes feels a little bit too long, like it's hitting an inner sphincter uncomfortably.

The trouble with the small Ripple is that you'll probably want a larger toy very soon after trying out this one. It's so small and so easy to take that my ass starts to crave a bigger toy almost immediately.

The Ripple would be easy to tuck into a purse or suitcase to take traveling, but it's not exactly discreet. It's quite obviously meant for anal pleasure purposes.

Performance

The Ripple feels good sliding in and out. There's a reason why beads/balls/bloops are a classic feature of anal toys - they really excite and challenge the anal muscles, and can be a great addition to your regular masturbation routine.

But as I said earlier, this toy's very small. I know it's called the "small" Ripple, but it really is tiny. I'm an anal wimp and this felt too small even for me. I'd like to upgrade to the large Ripple because I think it would be more satisfying, and it'd take me longer to outgrow it.

Care and Maintenance

Silicone's easy to take care of. Wash with soap and water, spray with an antibacterial toy cleaning spray, bleach, boil, or run through the top rack of the dishwasher. It's nonporous so you don't have to worry about it harboring gross bacteria from your ass, though it might hang on to ass smell for a while, even after being washed.

Because Tantus silicone is a particularly atrocious lint magnet, I keep my Ripple wrapped in a plastic sandwich bag when not in use. This keeps the dust and dirt away.

Only use water-based lube with silicone toys. Make sure you're using enough lube, too, because it's easy to hurt yourself anally if you don't use enough.

Packaging

My Ripple came in the typical Tantus packaging: totally non-discreet, clear plastic box, with a plastic clamshell keeping the toy in place. It could be used for storage but is a bit bulky for that purpose, so I threw mine away.
Follow-up commentary
The small Ripple is too small for me. I also don't like that it doesn't stay inside me when I want it to. I know it's not intended to stay there, as it isn't a plug, but I'd like to be able to take my hand off it briefly if I need to grab another toy or whatever, without it automatically sliding out as soon as I let go.

If you're looking for a sensation similar to anal beads, and you don't mind that this toy is very slender and won't stay in, it's a fantastic choice. But that's not really what I want from an anal toy, so I don't use this one often.

So this is sort of a set of graduated beads made out of a safe material, right? Did you try extracting them quickly during an orgasm as doing that with beads can add a new experience to an orgasm. Thanks for the great review.

I have been looking at the Ripple's older brother for a while but I wasn't sure if I should just jump to the bigger one but after reading this I think I can skip the small and go straight to the large.
