I guess that the Firebird didn't mention this

While this isn't the perfect toy for me, I think that it very well could be for many other people. Though the texture means that it is not ideally suited to complete beginners, its non-intimidating shape and size means that this toy is a great introduction to texture for those who wish to do a bit of exploring in the bedroom. I like that it is conducive to temperature play, and think that once I'm a bit more experienced, I'll definitely be coming back for more with this toy.

Use

The Gold-laced G by SSA glass is a textured glass dildo that could work well for both anal and vaginal play. The base is flared, however because it's extended elliptically and there is no lip at one side of the toy, it is not compatible with a harness as-is. If you added on a Vibrator Enhancer, like this silicone beauty here, it could be used with a harness. At only 6.5 inches long, you would notice the loss of length, but since glass has no give, a little bit can easily be felt when a harness is in use. If you do go this route, be very careful using this on your partner, as you can easily do damage to delicate tissues if thrusting too vigorously.

Because glass can be sterilized and is hypoallergenic, this toy is perfect for those of you who enjoy stimulating both the anus and vagina or sharing toys with a partner. The base is 2.25 inches by 1.5 inches, and is offset to one side, which makes it quite easy to hold. As this is my first and only toy with a flared base, I cannot say whether it is any easier to grasp than something with a centered base, but it's certainly less likely to slip out of your hands than something with no base at all. It's safe for use with water and all types of lubricants, which makes the Gold-laced G a very versatile and handy piece to have around. Because it is non-porous, this toy ranks a ten on Eden's safety scale.

Material / Texture

This toy is rather textured, so it may be a bit much for beginners despite its small size. It's only 3.5 inches in circumference (or 1 inch in diameter), which, when coupled with the insertable length of 6 inches, makes this a very non-intimidating way to introduce texture to your sex life. True fans of texture will enjoy this too, because though it is not as heavily textured as, say, SSA Glass' Rainbow Heart Dildo, the 6 criss-crossing yellow lattices that run along the length of the shaft are a very unique sensation. The head is semi realistic, and there are two ridges placed about an half an inch and an inch down the toy, which wrap around the shaft horizontally on one side before meeting in an upwards V on the other. These definitely kick-start the ribbed sensation with a bang. There are also raised vertical lines that run down the length of the shaft, which intersect the lattices and add an additional jolt to this toy.

    • Not porous at all

Design / Shape / Size

The fact that this is a hard, unyielding glass instead of something squishy like TPR or even regular silicone means that this toy feels much bigger than it really is. This is actually a rather good thing, in my opinion, because it doesn't /look/ overly large, so it won't keep away those who might like to experiment, but who are intimidated by something larger.

The slight curve of the shaft is designed to stimulate the G-spot, however since it's both textured and has no give, it may be difficult to do so as this is unlikely to suit all anatomical structures. Personally, I have yet to find my G-spot, so it was a bust in that respect. I did enjoy the subtle curve much more than if they toy had been straight, however.

I like the semi-realistic look and the detailing in the head - this is a very pretty toy, in my opinion, though far from one of the most exciting. This little bit of extra detailing goes a long way in making it just that little bit more appealing to those users who enjoy something on the more realistic side, without alienating those who enjoy toys that resemble something from outer space.

This toy is definitely not among the Discreet Elite, especially because of the head and the base. Anyone who has seen a dildo or taken a basic anatomy or sexual health class before is likely to be able to identify this as such. It may not be ideal for travel because even borosilicate glass is still glass, however with a good amount of padding, it could easily be transported from one location to another.

Performance

The great thing about glass toys is that they can easily be cooled or heated in a bowl of water - this was my first experience with temperature play, and something that I quite enjoyed. Since my first real look at the possibility of intentionally adjusting the temperature of your sex toy was this Edward Cullen dildo that you could stick in the freezer so that it would feel "as cold as death," this wasn't something that I expected to appeal to me. I liked going the other way quite a bit, though, and heating this up to just above body temperature. Since you wouldn't want to grab a glass pan out of the oven without mitts on, you should definitely make sure that this toy is cool enough to the touch to use before you bring it anywhere near your sensitive areas. Testing it against the inside of your wrist is a good way to go.

Personally, I found the introduction of both glass and texture at the same time to be a bit too much for me to thrust with. I do, however, enjoy using this to tease my partner, where I can slowly insert and remove the shaft for his viewing pleasure. I definitely want to add a lot of lubricant when using the Gold-laced G, just to be on the safe side, but if you're well-lubricated naturally, you'll likely find that you don't need very much or any at all to make this dildo nice and slick. As I said before, the toy does nothing to stimulate my G-spot, however this might be a good choice for those who require a shallower curve to seek theirs out. If desired, you could throw a cock ring around the base and really crank up the sensation, but beginners might be a little bit out of their depth if adding all of those sensations at once.

Care and Maintenance

Glass is fantastically easy to care for - this toy can be boiled, thrown in the dishwasher, wiped down with a diluted bleach solution, used safely with toy cleaner or simply scrubbed down with soap and water. You can clean it exactly the same way as you would Pyrex cookware, which was actually a bit of a thrill for me as someone who spends a lot of time in the kitchen (cue sexist jokes). Since this is so heavily textured, I irrationally worried that it might be difficult to clean, but since it's glass, it's easy to just wash and forget about. As this can be used with water-, oil- or silicone-based lubricants, there is no need to be careful about what this toy touches. It can be stored with all sorts of other toy materials, as it is non-porous, however the safest way to keep it would be in a padded pouch. Luckily, SSA Glass sent this out in a soft, red velvet pouch, which means that unless you like something a bit more padded or have an aversion to velvet, this comes complete with its own storage. It is also wrapped inside bubble wrap when it arrives, so if you are extra cautious (and can refrain from popping it all), you can always wrap it back up before returning it to the pouch.

    • Easy to store

Experience

The Gold-laced G came to me from a fantastic friend in a box of tricks, and it was so pretty that I couldn't help but be excited. I thought that it might be a bit much for me, and I wasn't particularly surprised when I was right. What did surprise me, however, is how much bigger this feels when in use than in your hand - the texture really makes it seem like a larger toy, and the unyielding nature of glass means that it also feels a lot longer than you expect. Personally, I would just like to have shelves and shelves of glass toys on display, because I think that the pretty, unique designs make them all such interesting pieces of art (and hey - most people would probably find that to be a great conversation piece!). I was a bit disappointed in how yellow the lattices are, but I suppose that I shouldn't have been expecting actual gold. This is a toy that I hope to keep around for a while, because I feel like I can continually surprise myself with the different sensations and ways of using it.
Follow-up commentary
It's still fantastically pretty, and even though I haven't gotten in to more glass dildos, I really appreciate having this one.

Great review! I used to have this one but ended up getting rid of it because the texture was too much.

Thank you guys very much for such positive feedback! This is my first review of an actual toy in a while, and it's fantastic reading your responses.

@Sunflower - I swear, the only other dildo I've ever shook my head at quite so hard was the "Head of State," which is shaped like Obama.
