Rump shakers medium - vibrating anal plug discontinued by Doc Johnson - review by Elias McLovin

The Rump Shakers Medium was the second toy I got from my secret Santa last year, and I must say I am very happy with it. It's primarily a vibrating butt plug, but could be used for vaginal use. It's a pretty big step up from the small, both in size and performance. The vibrations are more powerful, and the stem on this one actually keeps it held in place.

The Rump Shaker medium is made from rubber and Sil-A-Gel; with the controller being made from ABS plastic. Sil-A-Gel is a type of PVC that is anti-bacterial, and cadmium free. It is phthalate free, latex free, and non-toxic. The Sil-A-Gel gives it a pretty strong fruity odor which doesn’t go away, even after several washings. If you don’t like that smell, or toys with strong odors in general, you’ll probably want to avoid this toy. It has a smooth texture, which when lube is added, makes it pretty slick for easy entry. It has a firm outer shell so that it doesn’t flop around, and a soft inner core so that it still has some give. Since the materials of this toy are porous, if you plan to share this toy, or go from anal to vaginal use, you will definitely want to use a condom. The materials of this toy also tend to collect dust and lint, so you’ll want to wash it off before each use.

This toy is definitely a bit too large for beginners. It should, however, be a perfect fit for those with a little more experience. It is 5 ½ inches long with an insertable length of 4 ½ inches. Its circumference is 5 ½ inches at the widest point. It’s shaped like an average plug. It has a tapered point that gradually increases until a little more than halfway down. It then tapers back down to form the stem, which helps keep the toy in place once inserted. The stem is small enough to keep it from popping out, unlike the Rump Shakers Small, which had a stem that was a little too big. This toy has a flared base to keep it from going all the way in and getting lost. One thing I don't like about the design is the tip. It's more rounded than a lot of other plugs, which can make it a little more difficult to insert. This would probably be suitable for travel, but it isn't very discreet.

The vibrating bullet in the plug is embedded inside, and is not removable. The cord runs through the bottom and connects to the controller with a removable jack. The vibrations are controlled with a dial. They start at low, and gradually increase to high. Unlike the Rump Shakers Small, I could actually feel the vibration increase. If I happen to have the toy hitting the right spot, the vibrations feel amazing. The vibrations also feel good when using the plug to stimulate my perineum and anus. If the toy is not inserted, the noise can be quite loud. When it is inside though, I can barely hear it, which makes this a good toy to use if you have roommates or anyone else in the house you don't want to disturb or know what you're doing.

One thing I don't like about the controller is that the dial on the controller is a little touchy. If you shake or tap the controller, the vibrations can drop down, or turn off all together. This can be really annoying if you've gotten it to hit in just the right spot. I tested it with the controllers from both Rump Shakers and they both do it, though the controller that came with the small isn't nearly as bad.

This toy is not waterproof, so I wouldn't recommend using it in the shower.

To clean, wash with anti-bacterial soap or a toy cleaner. Be careful when washing the bottom, since water could get inside around the wire and possibly damage the toy. You can let it air dry, or dry it with a lint free cloth. I just use the package to store it, but you could also use a Ziploc bag, or a pouch. The types of lubricant that can be used are water and silicone lubes.

The toy comes packaged in a basic plastic clam shell. There is a paper insert with with some captions on the front, such as "Put the buzz in your but." There is an image of a naked woman in the background, but it's washed in the pink that colors the majority of the insert, so it's hard to notice it. The back contains some product and material information in several languages. It also has URLs for Doc Johnson's Twitter, Facebook, and Myspace. The package can be used as storage, but it can take up a little bit of room.
