Simply Flawed Design

Danus has all the right ingredients for a potentially great toy. Made of the safest available materials, a tip for easy insertion, three bulbs with different shapes, and a flared base - all the essentials of a pleasurable butt plug are there. However, we couldn't get past how uncomfortable the pointy tip and the rim of the second base was, and it's unfortunate because they are simple flaws in design. Danus might work well for others, but it just didn't work for us.

Use

My girlfriend has a strong fascination for anal toys. I decided to try the Danus by ManzzzToys because of its unique shape and it caught my eye. When selecting a toy for anal play, my first criteria is safety. When I saw the Danus was made of 100% food-grade silicone, I immediately wanted to try this. Even though the packaging says "Manzzz for men only," I knew that was just a marketing strategy. Anal toys don't discriminate - they work for anyone with an anus.

Danus is a butt plug, a toy used for insertion into the anus and rectum. It has a pointy tip, three notches for varying degrees of insertion, and a flared base, so the toy does not get lost inside the rectum. Because of its design, Danus is probably most pleasurable when used in the anus, though it could be used in other orifices. I haven't tried, but if you do intend to insert it in other orifices, please thoroughly clean it beforehand. The silicone is not very hard, and the base is quite soft and flexible, so it is possible to wear Danus for extended periods of time.

I recommend only using water or oil-based lube on this plug, because it is made of silicone. Silicone lubes might deteriorate and damage the toy. Be careful when using oil-based lubes, as they are not safe to be used vaginally.

Assuming you are using the plug on yourself: after lubing your anus and the plug, gently and slowly insert the tip of the plug into your anus. If anything feels painful, stop and slowly retract. Work with your rectal sphincter muscles to slowly relax the toy inside. Ease up when your muscles push the toy outwards, and slide in a little more when they contract inside. Patience is key when using anal toys, and always stop when feeling pain or discomfort.

Material / Texture

When I first opened the package, I had a pretty good impression of the toy. It felt light, and the silicone was soft to the touch and moderately flexible. Don't get me wrong, the material isn't squishy or stretchy, but it is a bit more pliable when compared with other silicone toys. The base is especially flexible. One thing to note is that the wider the circumference, the harder the silicone feels. Therefore the tip and notches feel soft and the ripples feel much harder.

The silicone is draggy; I would have preferred something more smooth. After lubing, the drag is negated, so it doesn't really matter. The silicone is not exactly a lint magnet but it will attract dust and particulates if left out of an airtight packaging, or if it comes into contact with fabrics.

There's a faint smell if you hold it up to your nose, but it's otherwise undetectable. This toy could potentially be enjoyed by both beginners and advanced users. The texture of the silicone didn't add much to anal stimulation - the plug just felt firm and uncomfortable. I visited the company website, ManzzzToys, and this is what they said about all their toys:

"All our ManzzzToys are made of 100% silicone of the very best grade.

A part of our philosophy is to put good things in the world. This means that we only sell innovative, environmentally friendly, extremely high quality and neutral packed products. We want everybody to be happy with our products.

ManzzzToys does not carry jellies, cyber skins, or other potentially toxic materials that are dangerous to the human body and to the environment. ManzzzToys are completely phthalates free that is tested by one of the biggest independent testing laboratory in the world."

That's a nice philosophy, if only the toy felt just as nice...

Design / Shape / Size

Dimensions:
Total Length: 4"
Length of base: 2"
Width of base: 0.75"
Widest width of second and third bulbs: 1.25"
Narrowest portion under the third base: 0.5"

The design is where most of the problems with this toy arose. While bulbs of varying shapes are great in concept, they did not get executed well through this toy. First, the tip is pointy - extremely pointy for an anal toy. It made the insertion very easy, but once inside, if the toy is not angled right, it will poke inside the rectum, and cause discomfort. That wasn't the worst part.

The second and most egregious design flaw is on the second bulb. It acts as a mini-flared base just by itself. The convex curve leading up to the widest portion on the second bulb felt like it was building up to a mini-base. Getting this part through the anus was painful. The rim felt like a very uncomfortable protrusion, made even stiffer by the structure of the toy. Because it was the widest portion of the second bulb, supported by curves, it felt much stiffer than the more contoured portions of the toy (think about arches in architecture, and how they support a much wider structure above them - the curves on the second bulb supported the widest portion).

It was so uncomfortable that there was no way we were trying the third bulb. Therefore, I unfortunately cannot comment on the experience of the third bulb or the actual flared base. I can only say the soft and flexible base should be comfortable enough for extended wear, and because of the small size of the toy, it is suitable for travel. The packaging is not discreet, because it states "solid butt plug" on the sides in eight different languages.

There is a seam that runs the entire perimeter of the toy, but my girlfriend could not feel it. There's also a company logo and name on the side of the third bulb, it is also in silicone but lightly raised. Because we never got to the third bulb, I cannot comment on how that felt either.

Performance

My girlfriend is not a beginner at anal toys. Although she does not enjoy large toys, she has tried a variety of shapes, sizes, and materials. By our second attempt at inserting this plug, she was literally begging for a Njoy or an Icicle toy. I didn't want to try this plug anymore than I already have.

If you're accustomed to larger anal toys, then the Danus might not be painful for you. I wouldn't recommend this toy to beginners at all because of the design.

Care and Maintenance

Because Danus is 100% food-grade silicone, it is non-porous, hypoallergenic, and phthalates free. It can be easily cleaned with anti-bacterial soap and warm water or use a toy cleaner. It can be thoroughly boiled or cleaned in the dishwasher. I suggest air-drying because towel-drying might cause lint to stick on it. Afterwards, put it in a air-tight container such as a zip-lock bag and store it individually.

Do not use silicone lubes with this toy. Only water or oil-based (don't let oil-based lubes come into contact with the vagina).
    • Easy to clean
    • Easy to store

Packaging

Danus comes in a reverse plastic clamshell with a mold in the center that conforms to the shape of the toy. There is an insert that says "Platinum 100% Silicone." There are no other instructions or manuals that came with the toy.

The outer cardboard box has the product description in eight languages, has the company name and logo. A barcode sticker on the bottom shows the product name, number, and the website. Manzztoys is a company from The Netherlands.

This packaging could serve as a storage and gift box, but it is not a compact storage solution. I would just put it in a zip-lock bag for compact storage.

I'm also not sure why this product is marketed towards men. There's no curve towards the tip of the plug to specifically target the prostate. Danus can be used by anyone with an anus, so please ignore the statement "for men only" on the packaging.

    • Not discreet

Personal comments

For all I know, someone may love this shape and design. It seems like a solidly built butt plug, with good craftsmanship, that will last a long time. Unfortunately, the shape just didn't work out for us.
Follow-up commentary
I can't justify using an anal toy that's painful again, so I haven't touched it since testing it out for the review. It's probably going to sit there until toy swapping time, if I ever get around to it. The design could very well work for other anatomies, but it just didn't work for us.
