Let's start with the fact that this toy has earned lots of respect and has tons of reviews on EF. This is the only toy that I have bought only because of its popularity. Everybody who loves some sort of anal play has it! True, if you do love anal play, and are still having a doubt about this Moon Shine, you simply shouldn't!
Here's why:
a) It's made out of pyrex glass. This makes it safe to share between partners, easy to clean, easy to store, easy to play with!
b) There's a reason it has made it to the "top 10" butt plug list. Its size & shape and there's no complaints!
c) Good for everyone. For a beginner or advanced user it will play its role right & it will hold up your ass tight!
d) It looks great too!
e) Affordable!
How to play with it? Even though this toy is made out of Pyrex Glass I would still recommend rinsing it with warm water and anti-bacterial soap before each use. Once it's completely clean, you have to great choices to make depending on what kind of experience you are looking for! Guess what? You can put it in a freezer for a few minutes, or you could microwave it for a 30 seconds to 1 minute to make it warm (depending on the power of your microwave). Benefits of getting this toy cold is that it will give you sensations that non-glass toys would never give you. In addition, if you are beginner in the anal play world, you'd find it easier to insert toy if it's warm. A warm plug will help you to relax and your ass will open to this Moon Shine easier.
After use: just simply follow the same routine as before use - rinse it with warm water and anti-bacterial soap. This toy is very smooth which it makes it easier to clean. No hassle cleaning it whatsoever!
Note: if you never owned glass plug before and you have an objection because it's made out of glass - don't. Pyrex is a unique material which will not break in a million pieces if you drop it on a bathroom tile or concrete. It would just break in two big pieces. Thus, there are no worries that this toy would ever break while having it up your butt!

Experience
When I receive a package I'm usually excited and don't really care how the toy is packaged, however, it does say something about the overall quality and manufacturers detail to the product. Most of the times we see if the toy is just wrapped in a plastic bag, is usually lower end toy and vice versa. Moon Shine comes with a nice case, which will allow you to take this toy with you once you travel or will also be great for you to store this plug.
My personal experience with this product is great, and even though, I am used to a bigger sized toys with a diameter of 2"+ , this butt plug works great as a warm up plug, it's great for temperature play, it's safe, and it's easy to maintain.

This thing is still shining! However, since Sasha Gray came, I like Sasha better. Anyways, it is still a great toy!

I have tried some of these things before but it has always hurt no matter how much lube we used any suggestions?

Lots of warm up as well. Lube and warm up are your two most important things here, so start with smaller toys and work your way larger, and of course keep with the lube. Something else to keep in mind is that you may never be able to comfortably take it, and that is perfectly fine too. We all have our limits :)

And it's always good to start with finger-play along with lots of lube first, so your anal opening can be gently stretched with a softer foreign object, before insertion with a real plug :) .

Can anyone tell me about temp. play? How cold or hot should they be and also what toys are best for temp. play? Any recommendations for me also?

Stainless is the best material for temp play with glass coming in second. Stainless keeps the temp longer.
As far as hot goes, test on the inside of your elbow. You don't want to burn your ass. You have to do other things with it, ya know? ;O As far as cold, as long as the temp of the toy in not like 20 deg or lower, have at it. As long as you use some good lube there should be no problems with the toy sticking to you.
I find that cold does not work as good as warm for anal play but it is fun. The ass tends to "clinch" up with cold temps.

Dwtim's advice is good. Out temperature play is anti-seasonal. My wife likes the cool temps in the summer and warm in the winter. But we don't do ice - there is enough temp difference between a 70 degree room temp and her 100 degree vuvla to get plenty of chill from the experience. For warm we do use a heating pad - and you've got to be careful not to let it get too hot.
