The Little Leaguer

The Anal Starter is more than just good for anal beginners, it works well for vaginal play also and since it is o-ring compatible, it is perfect for couples wanting to experiment with pegging for the first time. The phallic and realistic shape is delicious looking, but since this toy is small, the details can't be felt. The toy has a nice material, although porous. It is also berry scented which is so much better than chemicals, but it is strong and can get nauseating.

Use

The Radiant Gems Anal Starter is an awesome buy for under $10. It isn't just good for starter anal, but it is also firm enough for strap on play, and is great for vaginal too. It is small so don't expect to feel full here, but whether you are new to toys, anal, or pegging, this is a great toy to start off with. It comes in two gorgeous colors, shimmery green or purple and is very realistically shaped. The only person I wouldn't recommend this to other than someone who wants a large size, is those with sensitive sniffers. This dong is scented and be a bit overwhelming sometimes.

Material / Texture

For being so cheap, this dildo is made of a nicer material than most in the same price range. It is made of fairly firm, but flexible Sil-A-Gel. Sil-A-Gel is is essence a polyvinyl chloride (pvc). It is phthalates, cadmium (a carcinogen used in many pvc materials), and latex free making it safe for those with allergies. The material even has a non-toxic and anti-bacterial property, this does not prevent the semi-porous material free of STDs so be sure to still use a condom if sharing. Since this toy is smaller than the average penis, I suggest getting snugger fit condoms or these
toy covers.

There is a lot of drag against the surface so I recommend using lubricant especially for anal play. The Sil-A-Gel is a nice material that replicates how the firmness would feel on a real penis, but it kind of sticky and catches a lot of dust and lint. Wash before play as well as after. Make sure to wash yourself also because the material is scented. It makes me feel nauseous after awhile even though it doesn't smell horrible, it just is really strong. It kind of smells like berries.

Design / Shape / Size

The Anal Starter is very realistically phallic shaped, but not so much in length or girth. Total length is 6" but it has a 4" insertable length. The thickness ranges a bit with the texture, but on average it is 3 1/4" in circumference. The base is o-ring compatible but you would need a very small o-ring-2 3/4" in circumference. I have an o-ring small enough to work, but I don't have a harness that is compatible with a ring that size, so you may want to do some research before getting this with your current or wishlist harness.

This toy is in no way discreet. It is shaped like a real penis and looks like one other than the bright purple color. Also, the sweet berry odor is hard to ignore. If left in a small room, it fills it. It also isn't great for travel because the package is so big and without it, this would attract a lot of dust.

Performance

The size is great for anal starting, hence the name. It is a non intimidating length and girth and because of the phallic shape, it has a gradual insertion. The flexibility is nice also and it isn't too floppy to use in a harness although I wasn't able to because mine isn't compatible. This won't hit the p-spot on a guy, so if that is what you are hoping for, I would look elsewhere.

Vaginally, this won't hit any special spots either, like the g-spot, but the phallic shape feels nice. The ribbing and veins are too slight to be felt because of the size though. The base has a hollowed out underside which actually makes this able to stick to smooth and flat surfaces. It isn't strong enough to attach to a tile wall but it works well on a table or floor.

Care and Maintenance

The Sil-A-Gel needs to be washed with warm water and soap after use. If you need a lubricant use water or silicone based ones. To store, you can either put it in the package it came in, or a plastic bag away from all other toys, it will melt if it comes in contact with other toys, especially those of the same material.
Also, wash your hands and genitals after use, the smell lingers otherwise.

Packaging

The packaging is a bit excessive. This is a small toy and the package is way too large. It is like the company wanted to use the same sized plastic backing and just changed the mold of the front to fit this smaller toy. There are a good 5" of the package that extend above the top of the toy. There is warranty information on the package and a few other small blurbs about it, but it isn't all that informative. I did appreciate that it displayed that is was made in the USA.

Experience

I am giving this dildo 4 stars. It worked well for vaginal and anal and would be great for beginners or as a warm up to strap on play. The biggest issue I have with this toy is how strong the smell is. I hope that with more washings it will decrease a bit and no longer make me nauseous with prolonged exposure.

I still really like this dildo! I use it most often when I have extra condoms that don't work for my partner. The material is still as firm and doesn't seem to be deteriorating at all. Perhaps, their new material formula is much better! The scent has decreased, although not by much and still leaves my hand smelling of weird fruit. I recommend it to beginners and those on a budget. It is also great for anal starts and warm up.

Great review! Thanks for mentioning how Sil-A-Gel attracts every piece of dust in the air. I have a Sil-A-Gel dildo that is lightly scented cherry, but...it's foul! And the packaging was like you talked about. Just gigantic and uncalled for.

Why they even bother "scenting" these things, I'll never know.

  • Has anyone used the Doc Johnson anal starter with a harness?
    • what size o ring did you use?
    • I wouldn't recommend it. Too short of an insertable length, not made of bodysafe material, and the flange doesn't have enough size difference with the body to ensure that it's securely held in a harness.

      If you must then I'd go with one as close to 1" as you can get the dildo into.

      But, when I switch between them in the 1:1-views, there's barely a difference besides the base a bit and the color of course.

      So, are the details correct or are they really not different at all?

      I would NOT recommend this product for anal play, but that is just my opinion. The base is not flared enough for my comfort level. If you wanted to stick low cost and with Doc Johnson, I'd suggest this one instead. The base is a bit more differentiated for the rest of it.
