There's no reason for sharp pains when starting out with a butt plug- use lots of lube, warm up with fingers first, and be patient.
Since it is made out of jelly, it cannot be sterilized so a condom should be used if it is going to be shared. In fact, it will never truly be clean again after anal use, so a condom might not be a bad idea for every time it enters an ass.
